The open to Joy Reid's final MSNBC show: "When you are in the midst of a crisis and specifically a crisis of democracy, how do you resist – when fascism isn't just coming, It's already here?"

Last week, we were in Rockford with @StateRepVella to hear about community members' experiences with public defense & the urgent need for statewide reform.
IL needs a statewide office of Public Defense, tell your legislators to pass the FAIR Act: https://t.co/frjr0vFeou
Trump 2024 votes = 72,560,841 (50.9%)
Trump 2020 votes = 74,223,369 (46.9%)
Right now he has less votes in 24’ than 20’ (but votes are still being counted)
So - is the story right now really massive realignment/mandate given Trump likely won’t reach Biden’s record 81M+ votes of 2020 and Dems haven’t won the majority of white voters since LBJ was on the ballot?
Or - is the story the roughly 13,404,080 dem voters who turned out in 20’ but not 24’ and finding out why?
To be clear: the way you find out “why” is to ask the voters! Ask the organizers what they were hearing etc? you know - just like people did with the “white folks in diners” in 2016!!! 👀
As Election Day approaches, we are unsurprised to see a surge in misinformation about the end of money bond.
This is a friendly reminder that rigorous, transparent research from professors at Loyola University was published last month. Read it here: https://t.co/DobqpoiWev
The last time a majority of whites voted for the democratic nominee for president is the year the Beatles came to America
2020: 57% of white men and 53% of white women voted for Trump.
And the person the democratic party will deploy to scold white voters is - who again?
Under the money bond system, detention hearings were brief.
The Pretrial Fairness is ensuring that hearings are more robust. @CCJLoyola found the length of detention hearings increased after implementation to a median length of 10–30 minutes.
@om3 @TrinityChicago One year after implementation, the Pretrial Fairness Act has:
- Significantly reduced pretrial jailing.
- Saved marginalized communities $140 million that would have been spent on money bonds.
- Ensured that pretrial hearing are more robust.
And that's only the beginning.
Illinois became the first state to eliminate cash bail one year ago. New preliminary research shows that crime has not gone up in Illinois since the Pretrial Fairness Act was implemented.
Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx reflects on the rhetoric used a year ago.
"Since the Pretrial Fairness Act took effect, defendants are spending significantly less time in jail while awaiting trial. The number of defendants detained for more than 3 days after the initial hearing decreased from 31% to 8% in 21 counties examined." https://t.co/GHPKawD02b
