Encyclopædia Britannica will continue to use ‘Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons:

-We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S.

-The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous.

You see, here’s the thing.

Everyone accepts that all individuals have the right to hold a belief that they have an internal sense of identity. That’s because we all accept that no one, neither the government or an individual has the right to deny a person the right to have their own thoughts.

So, an adult man can believe, unfettered, that he is a unicorn, a fire engine, a crocodile, a seven-year-old boy or a woman. Everyone also accepts that no one should be discriminated against unlawfully as a result of holding such a belief.

However, that does not mean that any of those beliefs are actually true. A man cannot be a unicorn or a fire engine because the former is a mythical creature and the latter is an inanimate object. Likewise, a man is the wrong species to be a crocodile, the wrong age to be a child and the wrong sex to be a woman.

Your problem is that, as a movement, you insist that reality needs to be changed to accommodate the falsehood that a man can be a woman and vice versa. Moreover, you pursue that claim in a narcissistic, misogynistic, homophobic and occasionally violent way.

You demand access to intimate female spaces where women are vulnerable and often naked, spaces that are specifically provided for the privacy, dignity, safety, respect and emotional well-being of women.

You demand access to women’s sporting competitions and categories.

You demand that male prisoners with a ‘special identity’ be housed in the female prison estate irrespective of the crime committed.

You demand that lesbians should accept trans identified males who are attracted to women into their dating pool, calling them transphobic and bigoted genital fetishists if they refuse. Your movement even has a description of this entirely reasonable position, calling it the ‘cotton ceiling’.

You demand that everyone go along with your use of pronouns and your identity claims as a means of validation and you are so wedded to this process that you persistently refuse ‘third-space’ alternatives precisely because they are not validating.

You demand the right to exercise your sexual fetishes in public.

You demand the status of victim whenever anyone has the temerity to say, ‘no’, to any of your other demands

You demand that children can be ‘born in the wrong body’ and that the only ‘cure’ for this ‘condition’ is so-called ‘gender affirming care’, which amounts to injecting minors with castration chemicals and wrong sex-hormones, interfering with the necessary and entirely normal developmental process of puberty, mutilating surgeries and lifelong dependence on medication, all of which leads to long-term health degradation, sterilisation and a complete lack of seual function.

You really made a mistake when you came after the children and doubled-down when the public began to get wind of this aspect of the ideology.

The principal mechanism you use to further these demands is to manipulate or destroy female language because you see such language as an attack on your identity. You are invaders seeking to colonise womanhood (in your case), a demographic to which you do not belong.

And as the years have gone by; the public’s tolerance has been eroded as the toxic and violent nature of your movement has become more and more obvious and exposed to public scrutiny.

And you wonder why tolerance of your ideological demands is in decline? That’s called a lack of self-awareness, a failing which characterises the whole of your movement.

This 'why do you care about a tiny fraction of the population?' line is, and always was, utterly ridiculous.

Gender ideology has undermined freedom of speech, scientific truth, gay rights, and women's and girls' safety, privacy and dignity. It's also caused irreparable physical damage to vulnerable kids.

Nobody voted for it, the vast majority of people disagree with it, yet it has been imposed, top down, by politicians, healthcare bodies, academia, sections of the media, celebrities and even the police. Its activists have threatened and enacted violence on those who've dared oppose it. People have been defamed and discriminated against for questioning it. Jobs have been lost and lives have been ruined, all for the crime of knowing that sex is real and matters.

When the smoke clears, it will be only too evident that this was never about a so-called vulnerable minority, notwithstanding the fact that some very vulnerable people have been harmed. The power dynamics underpinning our society have been reinforced, not dismantled. The loudest voices throughout this entire fiasco have been people insulated from consequences by their wealth and/or status. They aren't likely to find themselves locked in a prison cell with a 6'4" rapist who's decided his name's now Dolores. They don't need state-funded rape crisis centres, nor do they ever frequent high street changing rooms. They simper from talk show sofas about those nasty far-right bigots who don't want penises swinging around the girls' showers, secure in the knowledge that their private pool remains the safe place it always was.

Those who've benefited most from gender identity ideology are men, both trans-identified and not. Some have been rewarded for having a cross-dressing kink by access to all spaces previously reserved for women. Others have parlayed their delicious new victim status into an excuse to threaten, assault and harass women. Non-trans-identified leftybros have found a magnificent platform from which to display their own impeccably progressive credentials, by jeering and sneering at the needs of women and girls, all while patting themselves on the back for giving away rights that aren't theirs.

The actual victims in this mess have been women and children, especially the most vulnerable, gay people who've resisted the movement and paid a horrible price, and regular people working in environments where one misplaced pronoun could see you vilified or constructively dismissed. Do not tell me this is about a tiny minority. This movement has impacted society in disastrous ways, and if you had any sense, you'd be quietly deleting every trace of activist mantras, ad hominem attacks, false equivalence and circular arguments from your X feeds, because the day is fast approaching when you'll want to pretend you always saw through the craziness and never believed it for a second.

The terminology of whether some Olympic athlete is "cis" or "trans" is irrelevant, as these are ideological terms that refer to whether a person's "gender identity" (a pseudoscientific term) aligns or does not align with their "sex assigned at birth."

But "sex assigned at birth" is another ideological term that does not always reflect a persons actual sex. Some people are born with DSDs that may cause a doctor to mistakenly "assign" a newborn the wrong sex. Based on gender ideology, if these people grow up and "identify" as the sex that was incorrectly recorded on their birth certificates, they will be "cis."

Because gender ideology is completely detached from reality, the term "cis woman" does not necessarily mean "female."

So everyone saying that the male boxer currently beating up women in the Olympics is a "cis woman" needs to stop using these misleading ideological terms and actually focus on material reality.

The boxer is biologically male, and ideological word games do not change that fact.
