Disciple of Jesus Christ. Husband, father, son & brother, 1/4 Māori. Learning from mistakes everyday, getting back up from failure, hopefully with a smile.
Found my 27 yr old journal, flipped through it randomly & at the top of a page I'd written:
From JOY I come, and to JOY I shall return.
Instantly smiled & remembered @PatrickKearon 's, "Welcome to the Church of Joy":

Great talk, definitely rewatch 👍
Brigham was right about the spirits that attack the children of God. We are living in the day which the Lord told us all would come: where there would be a plague of darkness that would cloud spirit and mind, caused by the enemy in opposition to life, those unclean spirits who were so expert at hiding that not even the most valiant of the Lord's servants would be able to detect them *unless* they lived by the fullness of the Law of the Fast every day just like our Saviour did (which fast is to rejoice through extending mercy to another, and to do so everyday whether that other "deserves" it or not).
* Doctrine & Covenants 59: fasting is rejoicing;
* Isaiah 58: Fasting is the extension of mercy to others.
When a person sincerely decides with intentional purpose to make their daily living of the gospel that simple every day, then those enemy spirits are rapidly detected and cast out of their life, their soul is healed and made whole in the Atoning Virtue of Christ, and that person's life becomes the living fulfillment of the prophecy in 1 Nephi 14:14 and 3 Nephi 12:15-16.
@CaptMahonri This is what is going on, why it is happing, and how to fix it one person at a time.
Missionary work is soaring to new heights. We are days away from the opening of 55 new missions. This brings the total number of missions to 506. There is a total of over 87,000 full-time missionaries. And we are currently being reinforced by the first wave of 18-year-old sisters beginning their service.
In coming weeks, we will have the largest number of full-time missionaries in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
These missionaries’ first responsibility is to testify of Jesus Christ to a world that suffers without knowledge of His divine mission. They invite people across the globe to become part of His true and living Church.
I affirm my testimony of Jesus Christ and the truth of His gospel. The Holy Ghost has given me a witness of its truthfulness, and I rejoice that I can spend my life in proclaiming it.
In recognition of the 250-year anniversary of the founding of the United States of America as a free and independent nation, Elder Quentin L. Cook and I discussed the importance of religious liberty and its underlying significance for the restored Church of Jesus Christ.
We believe in religious liberty.
As the Eleventh Article of Faith reminds us, “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.”
@MitchAnder1991 My experience has been that there is no salary level that will give us the freedom we think it will. Whenever we get there it's not "enough". But, if we focus outward and intentionally show mercy to others every day, especially to our children and family, then it becomes enough.
What your children really want for dinner is you!
In an age of constant online connection, we may need to disconnect from technologies and other distractions to truly reconnect with our families.
Families grow stronger when they set aside these distractions and spend meaningful time together—learning eternal values like the importance of marriage and children, the purpose of life, and the true source of joy.
Parents also have a duty to teach their children practical knowledge apart from gospel principles. Families unite when they do meaningful things together. Happy family experiences strengthen family ties. Camping, sports activities, and other recreation are especially valuable for bonding families.
Some may say, “But we have no time for any of that.” To find time to do what is truly worthwhile, many parents will find that they can turn their families on if they all turn their technologies off.
What those we love need most is simply time with us. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our ultimate role model. He will help us as we strive to build these family bonds.
Today, my counselors in the First Presidency and I were grateful for the opportunity to visit the Salt Lake Temple, which has been undergoing a significant renovation since 2020.
We look forward to welcoming people from throughout the world during the Salt Lake Temple Celebration and open house, to be held from April through October 2027.
Above all, we look forward to teaching about the sacred purposes of temples throughout the world. In the temple, faithful men and women receive divine instruction, sacred responsibilities, and spiritual power.
It is in the temple that eternal covenants are made that bind us and our families to our Heavenly Father and to one another for eternity.
@no_1_2important@K10original@PTSPentax Well, their names are technically mentioned in 3 Nephi 19:4 but the trick is narrowing it down to 3 out of the list of 12 😅
When Mary returned to the Garden Tomb, angels—and then the risen Savior Himself—asked her a simple, searching question: “Why weepest thou?” (John 20:15). At Easter, that same loving question is quietly extended to each of us.
I pray that you will find in your faith the light, the love, and the joy that He would have all of us feel at this sacred time of year.

@chrishardman@G_Freeman77@ThoughtEnjoyer@JS_StrngstSldr He also said, "all things unto me are spiritual" (D&C 29:34) & "All spirit is matter, ... and can only be discerned by purer eyes; We cannot see it;" (D&C 131:7-8) Maybe we are still under the spiritual part of Noah's flood. I just try to follow Christ as simply as I can.
@DaringGlory@YourAnonSaint I started using the 1828 Webster's dictionary over the last year & a half to look up words from the scriptures. Sometimes the meaning is quite different, or even opposite, vs today's meaning. Makes me think that our language's been confounded again even in the last 200 years.
@YourAnonSaint yep, that tracks with what I've personally seen throughout my career. Often when helping to mediate conflicts at work I've noticed it was started because two people just understood the same set of words differently (& then doubled down on their misunderstanding).
Updated 1st Presidency and Quorum of the 12 Apostles has dropped! Thank you @MattTestifies for 1st sharing this!
We thank Thee, O God for a Prophet! @Ch_JesusChrist
I know they are called of God & I am grateful for their sacrifice!
Repost if you believe in living Prophets!
As Mary Magdalene and her companions mournfully approached the Garden Tomb, two angels appeared to them and shared the clarion call of all Christianity:
"Why seek ye the living among the dead?"
"He is not here, but is risen" (Luke 24:5-6).
This Easter season we also joyfully testify of this same eternal truth—Jesus Christ is risen. He lives!
The Savior of the world was crucified and, on the third day, rose from the dead, "the firstfruits of them that slept" (1 Corinthians 15:20). His Resurrection allows all to be resurrected, and through His grace, we can find peace "which passeth all understanding" (Philippians 4:7) and "be perfected in him" (Moroni 10:32).
We invite each of you during this Easter season to "seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written" (Ether 12:41). As you do so, we testify that your Easter celebrations can strengthen your own faith and testimony that "death is conquered; man is free. Christ has won the victory" ("He Is Risen!" Hymns, no. 199).

Gordon B. Hinckley:
“Sacrifice is the very essence of religion; it is the keystone of happy home life, the basis of true friendship, the foundation of peaceful community living, of sound relations among people and nations. …
“Without sacrifice there is no true worship of God. I become increasingly convinced of that every day. ‘The Father gave his Son, and the Son gave his life,’ and we do not worship unless we give—give of our substance, give of our time, give of our strength, give of our talent, give of our faith, give of our testimonies”

@mormcore@sunday_southern but I totally get the cringe problem, for like a third of my mission I recorded my journal entries (on tape cassette, it was 25 years ago) and a few months ago I found the tapes. Started listening to them one day & was like, nope I can't listen to my 19 year old self 😂
@mormcore@sunday_southern if you program, maybe you could export the big file into text file and then do a small script that looks for dates (assuming the journal is broken up by date) and then splits it into different files based on when there's a change in date?

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” (Isaiah 9:6). On this sacred day, may we remember that perfect babe cradled in a manger. He is the reason we rejoice, celebrate, and give gifts today. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is the gift.
“As I grow in age and experience, I grow ever less concerned over whether others agree with us. I grow ever more concerned that they understand us. If they do understand, they have their agency and can accept or reject the gospel as they please.
“It is not an easy thing for us to defend the position that bothers so many others.
“Brethren and sisters, never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Never apologize for the sacred doctrines of the gospel.
“Never feel inadequate and unsettled because you cannot explain them to the satisfaction of all who might inquire of you.
“Do not be ill at ease or uncomfortable because you can give little more than your conviction.” - Boyd K. Packer
