@NBC10: For Doug Lane, who lost his wife, Christine, and their son, Spencer, in the January tragedy, the recovery process has been painful. However, through that grief, he found a way to honor not just his family, but the others lost alongside them.
Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee made the dedication official Saturday afternoon, putting the finishing touches on the new park in Barrington. (Rep. Jennifer Boylan sponsored the House legislation to name the park in Christine Lane's honor.)
The idea for the park came to Lane not long after the crash.
"It was important to me that for both her and for Spencer, that there were places of joy that they could be remembered, not just places of sadness," Lane said.
The Christine Lane Dog Park stands now as a place where furry friends can lift up spirits, just as she would have wanted.

The House has approved a bill sponsored by @RepMSDawson that will help assist and protect abandoned and abused animals.
The legislation would allow animal control officers in cities and towns to lawfully take charge of and provide adequate care to any animal found abandoned, abused, neglected or hoarded. Currently, only agents of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are lawfully allowed to rescue and care for abandoned or abused animals.
“This bill is simple and about two things, common sense and protecting defenseless animals from abandonment, abuse and neglect. While the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals does fine and admirable work, these crimes happen too frequently for the Society to handle this problem on its own. And it’s common sense to empower our local animal control officers with the ability to lawfully remove animals from dangerous or abusive situations, while also being lawfully able to provide the care and assistance that the animal may need,” said Rep. Dawson.
