Yesterday was everything we hoped for, and more 💙 Thank you to every runner, walker, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who showed up and showed out for The Brigade 5.7K & 1.57M Family Festival! Because of you, we're able to help support those living with ALS.
Who will you be running for on May 3rd? The Brigade 5.7K & 1.57M Family Festival is a chance for you to walk or run in honor of the lives and legacies of all those who have been impacted by ALS. Get your tickets TODAY at https://t.co/HYkWGnv9h3
@drmclphillips@JINeuroscience Just finished reading this paper - WOW. This is a lot more than what's covered in an undergrad neuroscience course. Learned a lot - thanks Dr. Matt!
Remarkable story indeed Dr Schofield @grantsnz. Simon @leguvnor, glad to know your mother-in-law was inspired by Dr Matt-Kim Hill “metabolic therapies 101” 2022 interview! @radionz, about time for another update! 😁

"...the remnants of the tumor have nearly gone."
This is truly inspiring and powerful - thank you for putting it into words, Simon @leguvnor! And thank you for sharing, Dr. Matt!
As finals week approaches, energy drinks fly off the shelves, and offerings to "Testudo" pile up, I got to spend an afternoon at home with nice keto food and (re)watch this episode with my mom:

Nice synopsis by @ChrisPalmerMD, summarizing "what lies beneath" Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and the other neurodegenerative disorders (@MitoPsychoBio):

"New paper on Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, and Huntington's that conceptualizes these as different facets of the same disease... hope for truly restorative therapies in the future." - Dr. Matt and Dr. Picard @MitoPsychoBio@alzheimerssoc@HDSA@iamalsorg@MichaelJFoxOrg
In future, it is my hope that we will use therapies aimed at restoring mitochondrial biology to help people with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, and Huntington's, more than what is currently possible. Pleased to publish this paper with @MitoPsychoBio

URGENT: Keep government from closing a landmark clinical trial for schizophrenia
As reported by the @baltimoresun yesterday, the Maryland Health Department @MDHealthDept, led by Dr. Laura Herrera Scott, has halted the only U.S. inpatient trial on ketogenic therapy for schizophrenia. After a 16-week review that revealed no health or safety concerns, the decision to shut down the study was based solely on the funding sources.
Given the limited availability of federal funding for mental health research, studies like Dr. Kelly’s, funded by private foundations, are crucial. Among the dozen trials investigating ketogenic diets for serious mental illnesses, Dr. Kelly’s research stands out as the sole trial of ketogenic therapy for schizophrenia available to inpatients, who typically suffer the most severe symptoms.
Roughly a dozen patients who had already volunteered were not allowed to participate after the study's closure. Isn't this a violation of patients' rights?
Three patient advocacy organizations, including one representing 750 Maryland psychiatrists, wrote to the health department to protest the decision. These pleas asking that the keto trial continue were ignored.

The Maryland Health Secretary has halted an ongoing, privately-funded, inpatient study of a medical ketogenic diet for treating schizophrenia for no clear reason.
People with schizophrenia deserve better treatments.
