#UPDemographics:

1) Decreasing Hindu population in UP:
In 1951 it was 85.52%
In 2001 it was 80.61% and
In 2011 79.73% only!

2) Muslim population has risen from 14.28% in 1951 to 19.26% in 2011!

3) Few districts of UP in 2011:

Muzaffarnagar Hindus 57.51%
Bijnore Hindus 55.18%
Saharanpur Hindus 56.74%
Moradabad Hindus 52.14%
Rampur Hindus 45.97%

Key data pocket in East UP (Nepal-border belt) - Bahraich, Shrawasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Sant Kabir Nagar: Muslim share: 30.9% (2001) → 31.5% (2011) — marginal increase of 0.6 pp.
Growth was rapid until ~1991 but moderated/stalled in 2001–2011 (similar to trends in Bihar/Jharkhand).

CAG Performance Audit Findings on Jal Jeevan Mission in Kerala and Karnataka.

1 ) *Inflated Figures and Over-Reporting of Achievements*

👉MIS/dashboard data showed significantly higher FHTCs than actual consumer ledgers or ground verification in test-checked divisions, with discrepancies indicating inflated claims (e.g., one audit noted gaps of over 1.49 lakh connections between reported and ledger figures).

👉Villages and habitations were prematurely declared “Har Ghar Jal” compliant or 100% FHTC achieved even when works remained incomplete or pipelines/structures were missing.

👉Kerala audit: Geo-tagged FHTC locations erroneously marked outside the state, including cases in the Lakshadweep Sea; over 2.13 lakh connections (out of 4.04 lakh disconnections) cut within the same month they were provided.

👉Karnataka: Shortfall in actual Functional Household Tap Connections even after adjusting for overstated claims (target ~72.14 lakh vs lower verified delivery).

*2 Corruption and Financial Irregularities*

👉Double booking of GST on road restoration charges and irregular spending of Government of India funds flagged in financial management.

👉Pendency in payments to contractors running into thousands of crores (e.g., ₹3,578+ crore bills pending in one audited state), causing work slowdowns or halts.

👉Mismatches in JJM accounts, inadmissible centage charges, and poor tracking of community/local body contributions (funds not properly remitted to State Nodal Agency in many test-checked GPs).

👉Overall scheme cost escalated sharply from original ~₹3.6 lakh crore to ₹8.29 lakh crore, with tender guideline changes contributing to extra costs.

3 *Tendering, Contract Management and Quality Lapses*

👉Widespread irregularities in contract management: A large number of works are awarded on single bids without adequate competition or assessment of contractor capacity.

👉Multiple projects concentrated with the same contractors (e.g., Karnataka: 9,342 works out of 38,231 awarded to single bidders/contractors).

👉Deficient Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), land issues leading to abandoned works midway, and quality management failures in procurement.

👉Source inadequacies and substandard execution risk long-term asset quality.
