Is this too obvious to point out? As challenging as online teaching has been this year, we've done it on a foundation of in-person relationships we spent seven months building in real classrooms. Next year we may not be working off that foundation.
Yes! It really is just that simple friends...find the balance. Focus on the right things (the kids’ well being). Let the rest just fall away. We will figure out the details of the grading/curriculum stuff later, or maybe we won’t. Either way, it’s okay. #lessismore#justbethere
I, and we, should probably decide over this hiatus what our priorities will be - “catching them up” or being a force for healing. These goals, at times, will conflict. What will we choose when they do?
Coming to terms with the reality that next year’s freshmen will not have finished 8th grade - and will require the most patient and loving version of me.
What should students learn in this bonkers world?
Students should learn that their teacher wants to see their little donut faces so much that they would tinker w/Zoom, Fligrid, Google Docs, etc. for hours.
For now, technology is the medium. But, as always, love is the lesson.
But I understand that this, for some, is a platform that can be used to affirm and enlighten. This is how my brain works. Twitter provides opportunities, but so far experience is... mixed. Experienced, responsible twitterers, any thoughts?
It is true that reality can be a harsh teacher. Truths often have many faces, each one reflecting a different light with varying degrees of clarity and intensity. I’m not sure Twitter handles all of that super well.
