The #community thought he was rich. He wasn't. He barely had enough to support himself and his cats. But that didn't stop them from picking his pockets cleaned of every last cent.
"Stop him! Don't let him go!"
Hands ripped at his clothes as he struggled to flee.

"Where is the Inn?"
He appraised the #foreigner. Travel worn, alone, little possessions.
"Next street over, fella."
The foreigner thanked him and trudged off.
He called her. She answered on the first ring.
"That enough for your potion?"
A pause.
"No, one more. "
Damn.

He was home alone.
He was chilling on his bed, scrolling through YouTube shorts on his phone and thinking about going to bed when the floorboard outside his bedroom door groaned #thunderously.
He stared at his door.
No one was home, right?
Heavy breathing; a rattling.

The moon disappeared.
"An unexpected lunar #eclipse," assured the newscaster.
But the moon was gone.
Nights were pitch dark. As he lie in bed, staring at his darkened ceiling, he listened to the crunch of leaves coming from the woods. His gut warned him: it was coming.

He dreamed about one day getting lost in space. Exploring the galaxies and planets. He talked about the man on the moon and swore on nights with a full moon, the man on the moon waved to him.
"You're an #astronaut now, buddy." She placed a hand on his grave. "Fly high."

"Dear God, I'm tired and don't want to be here anymore. Please save me."
The angel wrote his #prayer and sent it to heaven. She placed a sympathetic hand on his shoulder; giving him good vibes and a clear head so he could rest. Being a scribe of prayers was never easy.

He ran his hands roughly through his hair and took a deep breath. Cracking this #cypher was harder than expected. He wouldn't make the deadline. He wouldn't be able to save her.
No, that type of thinking wasn't going to help him. He had to keep trying.

He was ordered to go #undercover as a student to gather information on the principal and report back. But the strict rules, the heinous punishments doled out for anything, made him step out of line.
"How dare you - ?!"
The principal smirked as the vice bore down on him.

In his lethargic state as he lay spread out on his bed in front of his fan, he wished for a winter's #freeze. But for now, he'd deal with the heat. Reprieved by his fan, iced water, and the occasional wind that drifted in through his open window.

The moon was full and bright against the clear, indigo sky. Waves ebbed gently to the shore; flowers in a mixture of colors.
He gaped.
"Is this #utopia?"
"No," she said, "but you can stay for as long as you like."
He went to stand in the sea.
"This is better than home."

A lone #domino lie on the sidewalk.
"Poor thing," he murmured, picking it up.
He opened the drawstring pouch at his side and dropped the domino inside with the other abandoned items. Humming, hands clasped behind his back, he continued his search for more items.

Having his every #move watched was uncomfortable.
"Ignore them," he told himself, "just concentrate."
He ran into deadends. The reality of him not getting to the center first began to sink in. He rounded a corner and came face to face with a giant, fire-breathing thing.
#vss365
"Choose wisely," said the #charmer.
He looked over the items on the scrubbed table. He just needed a bit of luck to get through the day. The penny was on heads and in decent shape.
He picked it.
The charmer smiled.
As he walked away, he dropped it.
It landed on tails.

They wend towards the exit shuffling like #zombies, groaning as the early morning sun blinded them after a night in the dim.
"Hey buddy," one said, clapping him on the back, "have a great day. See you tonight."
He grunted.
How can anyone be cheerful after a rough night?

The scarecrow #slumped to the ground.
"Lazy," cawed a crow.
"Lazy," agreed another.
The old farmer would say that and more if he looked out his window.
The scarecrow was exhausted. It was the old farmer's turn to protect the crops. Leaving his post, he went to the house.
#vss365
He was laughing like a #manic, dancing like one too as the #inferno consumed the trees.
"Burn!" He called to the fire. "Burn, my beauty! Kill them all! Don't let them frick with you!"
Panic and the approaching sirens added to his glee as he became one with the fire.

She said he was #brave for taking care of a hoard of cats. But as he heaved another shovelful of dirt, he didn't feel brave, just pain and confusion. What was happening? This was third cat he'd lost this week. What was happening?
She watched as he laid his cat to rest.
