For those that enjoy this, I sincerely recommend Thomas Pynchon’s Mason & Dixon— a great novel exploring the character and philosophies of continental vs maritime empires up to the 18th century
Learned to connect with my father on a deeper level when I realized I needed to engage him on his two favorite topics: STIR markets and the Old Testament
@tylercosgrove a lot of people gave it rave reviews... it kind of just read as them playing a movie in the background to me like brainrot videos... but then again opera can be kind of boring so i get it
@tylercosgrove unfortunately the slop is also widespread in traditional classical too, for example the met production of wagner's tristan und isolde this year was like corporate memphis for the stage, extremely cheesy and overdone, with AI like animations etc
scoring movies is kind of an important gig for the best musicians in our time - daniel lopitan for example going from producing the weeknd and solo stuff to uncut gems and marty supreme scores... i guess i can see why it sucks if youre in the orchestra, but i dont really see why its that different if the score is actually good. this is like saying you dont want to play great composers operas
