@SpencerFern2@YorkshireCCC Batter edged it down on to the keepers boot. Ball bounced up into slips hand. Clear as daylight. Umpire says not out and batter takes advantage of it even though it was clear.
@WG_RumblePants Yes, and even as a Yorkshire member very cross about no Ashes Test in the north next year, we also have to remember that Hampshire provided their ground and facilities for several matches that year, so I can understand the wish to reward them with an Ashes Test.
@Dan01222@YorkshireCCC The evidence is so clear it is unbelievable that the umpire got it wrong. The catcher and keeper wouldn’t even have appealed had it gone into the ground and bounced up. I hope the Yorkshire management are (scrupulously politely) in the umpires’ ear over lunch.
@chris_walton21@YorkshireCCC Umpires make mistakes on difficult decisions. Sometimes a replay can confuse rather than clarify the issue.
This was not a difficult decision. The replay is absolutely clear. I’m not usually inclined to blame the umpire but this is absolutely appalling.
@AdamsonRussell@YorkshireCCC Absolutely terrible. Just no doubt at all.
Also the catcher would never have even thought of appealing if it had been off the ground!
@OliJacobs4@YorkshireCCC “You can’t blame the umpires.” I’m sorry, yes you can. Sometimes looking at replays clouds the issue, especially when it’s a question of fingers under or not under the ball, but there’s no issue here to cloud. An appalling decision.
@WhiteRoseFiles@BumbleCricket@YorkshireCCC Won’t be a popular opinion, but I think the time has come for him to take over from Bairstow as captain of the county championship team. If not immediately, then next season.
@YorkshireCCC@onedaycup My reaction at the time was that we made hard work of that, but actually the tight wins often say more about a team than when you coast to victory. Well done, excellent win and great bottle shown at the end.
@richiejv@OwenNPavey@BoothCricket It’s a bit unfair to indicate the middle of those sections as those seats were never sold as the view of party of the pitch was obstructed by the fencing around the building works. Some people chose to move there for whatever reason but apparently no one had a ticket for there.
@VaughnHebron@YorkshireCCC I agree entirely that they should have been playing for much of the afternoon, but the umpires - who make the decision - are from Yorkshire and Durham, so hardly southerners!
@YorkshireCCC@loganvanbeek I’ve heard from someone who was there on Saturday that he spent time on the boundary talking to two young (10ish) spectators. It’s that sort of engagement that will get youngsters to want to go back to cricket. Well done @loganvanbeek (and for the catch).
@Andy__Mac@YorkshireCCC I just hope that he doesn’t become the regular drinks carrier this season as I wouldn’t want to see him heading off elsewhere to get first team cricket. But with Root and Brook available for four matches between them, I do think it’ll be hard for him to get into the team.
If you’re a batsman and you want to play Test cricket well, just play like Joe Root. Use him as your template. Learn from him, watch him, emulate his judgment and work ethic. It’s all there for everyone to see.
Bugger the “this is just the way I play” bollocks. Play like Root.
@dgriffinpix Delighted that the Chesterfield Festival coincides with Yorkshire playing away this year. Planning to stay for the Championship game and the first women’s match, then come down for the day to watch - I fear - Yorkshire get murdered as usual at T20 🤣
