@EricAsimov Eric, looking forward to trying the Stefan Vetter Sylvaner. I am one who after decades of tasting-sampling Sylvaner have found the wines monochromatic, dull, neutral & uninteresting with few exceptions. Olivier Zind-Humbrecht was making compelling Sylvaner in 1990’s early aughts.

@JohnBGilman John I do agree with you that the use of French oak in Rioja should be done sparingly. I believe where we will see a goosed up usage of FR oak will be in the newly added (2019) category of Rioja’s single vineyard designation Viñedos Singulares (VS).

@timatkin I have so many great memories of multiple visits to SF having festive ‘jaleos’ at all hours, dining in Yuet Lee (Broadway & Stockton) always bringing crates of wine with a prerequisite visit to City Lights Books before the gustatory fun began.

@MichaelApstein Michael, I did the same experiment with some variants with 8 different Sauternes/ Barsac during November and December 2020. I used the old fashion ‘Vac-u-Vin’ for each individual bottle by pumping out the air through a rubber closure. The wines stayed fresh as a daisy for weeks.
