“I have seen public officials abuse their power. I have seen people use their position to intimidate, to threaten, to silence. But what Senator Erwin Tulfo said on national television stopped me cold.

“Bibitbitin kita. Kekwelyuhan kita. Palalayasin kita diyan sa floor na yan."

“I will have you arrested...kahit na senador ka..kahit na sinasabi mong matanda kana..ilang taon kana sa senado.....Try me.”

These are not the words of a public servant. These are the words of someone who has confused a committee chairmanship with a license to terrorize.

He threatened to arrest fellow senators for conducting a hearing. He called witnesses bayaran before they even testified before him. He announced he will sue the ex-Marines who testified under oath. He declared that the Ombudsman will not accept complaints, as if he had the authority to decide that. He said legislation works better with only twelve senators, with no opposition, no scrutiny, no one questioning them.

And all of this from a man who himself admitted on air, in his own words: “13 you need to have a Senate President. 12 cannot appoint a Senate President.”

This is the man who wants to chair the Blue Ribbon Committee. The body that exists to hold power accountable. These are the words of someone who appears to believe he is above the law, above the Constitution, and above the most basic standards of decency and RESPECT that every senator owes to every colleague, every witness, and every Filipino watching.

Sir, with all due respect, the Senate floor is not your floor. The Blue Ribbon Committee is not your weapon. And the senators you are threatening? They were elected by the same people who elected you.

Every senator in that chamber, including you, is a public SERVANT. Not a public threat. The Filipino people deserve better than this. We deserve better.

And again, the Constitution does not BEND for anyone.

Not even for someone who says “try me.”
