Irish NCHDs don't need much more of a push to move to Australia but 10k in relocation expenses is fairly ridiculous incentive. HSE retention strategies are what exactly...
Some facts about NCHDs and Training - thread..
1 All doctors complete an undergraduate medical degree which takes 4-6 years, paying same costs as all other college students. They are then qualified as a Doctor.
Graduated medicine 2yr ago, this is my 7th job changeover
Week 5 with no pay, working for same @HSE_HR, same tax no, same payroll dept
I ask politely if I should expect to be paid next pay..
Why do they make us beg for pay & create such uncertainty?

It’s a small indignity, but I remember when some Irish hospitals tried to deny some NCHDs the covid vaccine in January 2020 because it was close to changeover and they didn’t want to “waste” vaccine doses on their transient NCHD workforce. #StandingUp4NCHDs
@DonOBrien1 @marietcasey @ritakj @DonnellyStephen Even things like PRSI.... A stinger slice from the rough thru the trees 👀
@Keegan_Bradley makes an unreal birdie on 18 win the hole and earn a tie in his match against Adam Scott.
Apropos the discussion around NCHD experiences in Ireland, this anecdote from Australia shows how a heath system can not just retain, but also attract, healthcare workers!
She decided to try her luck and asked the Rota coordinator if she could at least take Boxing Day as A/L so she could use her tickets, obviously not expecting much in return.
This was the reply:
Anybody who is not a doctor & wonders why so many doctors are leaving for Australia, please read this thread. I’m sure we’ll get some eedjit who still thinks it’s about money and still thinks that doctors should reimburse the state for their education 🙄
It is not ok to insist doctors agree to take a contract that does not exist.
In solidarity with my future colleagues I have to comment on this.
@DonnellyStephen
It’s been very obvious in the last two week that we need boosters in our arms ASAP. Further delay will lead to more clinics cancelled (happening already), procedures cancelled (🤯), and skeleton teams (happening already) @HSELive
