Dear Timothee, it’s okay to say that an NBA championship felt better than a potential Oscar win, you can joke about it. People joked about you up until now. The Oscar’s ceremony felt like hell cause they turned it into entertainment at your expense. I know people made awards season feel so heavy for you that those Knicks games felt like a place of comfort and you said it in such a lighthearted, unserious way, just for things to get taken in ways that feel unfair once again. You don’t deserve constant scrutiny or double standards where others can say similar things freely but you get judged for it. You have such a big heart. Know that there are more people rooting for you than against you. It’s clear you’ve found joy in the sports world and you have people around you who see you and value you. You don’t have to fit into anyone’s expectations to be worthy of respect. You deserve everything that feels like peace, joy and freedom to be yourself without being picked apart for it. It’s okay to laugh things off even the hate you get. You don’t have to hide your joy or suppress your personality just to please people. Don’t listen to the voices that try to tear you down or silence you as if you’re supposed to stay quiet while everyone else keeps saying what they want about you. You can laugh too and you’re allowed to speak, you’re allowed to joke and you’re allowed to be free.
So incredibly disappointed and heartbroken that the #Oscars and AMPAS chose not to include my father, David Keighley, and his immeasurable contributions to IMAX and cinema in the In Memoriam segment in the broadcast.
I will never forget.
