Sloane Square. Over 20 years ago @rbkc proposed changing the traffic island into a great civic space - the sort of transformation seen at Trafalgar Square. After inevitable objections about space for cars, they gave up. 1/2
@FelicityBuchan Felicity, maybe take some time to reflect on tactics that didn’t work for you. You supported it until you thought you could create a wedge issue. We’re delighted you’re no longer in a position to block vital road safety schemes. 👇
Kensington Palace Gardens. Home of some of the richest and most fortunate in the country who now want everyone else to be unsafe by shutting the road to 🚶🏾♂️ 🚲 🦼. We support the petition to reverse this appalling step by @TheCrownEstate 🧵 https://t.co/Jl4tdHZGHL
Notting Hill Gate has so much potential
A clear commitment to deliver on the vision & objectives is needed
A place based approach focused on making Notting Hill Gate somewhere that people want to go to & not just travel through is key to turning those 🔴🟠➡️🟢
@FelicityBuchan@TfL@Tony_Devenish@CemKemahli @lionhouse33 You’ve had years to find something to support and deliver - but you haven’t, have you? So really your record speaks louder than a pre election stunt around a change you yourself supported in 2019 . Do better.
It’s confusing (politely) being an @rbkc resident taking part in consultations. 🚶♀️ 🚲 🦼 scheme on Kensington Park Road consulted late 2023. What happens next is… er, one councillor says “no forget that, add back through traffic”. Have your say https://t.co/4jEVEkBtCv
Doctor who suffered life-changing injuries while cycling near Battersea bridge tells her story for first time as artist husband prepares to open exhibition https://t.co/7kJHURqwc9
Even by @FelicityBuchan standards this beggars belief. An advantage in life of telling the truth is that being consistent is so much easier. Here’s @rbkc in 2019 supporting the proposal to make Holland Park roundabout safe. Now opposing it is her biggest ever campaign 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏽♂️🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♀️
A massive thank you to @SaveBGstreets - if you can, please consider supporting their crowdfunding for Bethnal Green. We know first hand how tough it is to take on the deep pockets of boroughs determined to stop progress. Every little really does help https://t.co/SNe9yGrbyC
Quick consultation time ! More 🚶🏾♂️ 🚲 🦼 space for Basil St (adjacent to Pavilion Road). It’s not huge, and joins to the missed opportunity that is Sloane St and Sloane Square, but it’s one to support. Takes 2 mins (or less !) 👇 https://t.co/MPNYOkmaIf
The biggest takeaway from Seville’s bike boom?
Always think at the network level.
To establish it as a viable mobility choice, cycle infrastructure must be treated as a series of connections—like roads or rails—designed with continuity, cohesion, visibility and comfort in mind.
If @RBKC councillors put as much thought & energy into this as they did about other planning conditions they could have actually delivered on council policy - ⬆️ blue badge spaces to 9 & reallocate other spaces to secure cycle facilities.
@MayorofLondon should call this in.
Helsinki planners have modelled what happens when pedestrians are prioritised, rather than forced to wait ages to cross.
They found that a 5% improvement in the walking environment leads to a 2.3% increase in public transport use and €8.5 million increase in fares.
So, how? 🧵

Massive massive massive thank you to all those involved in making this part of Cycleway 9 happen. It takes vision, determination and a commitment to making streets healthier even if it’s sometimes politically uncomfortable. Where you lead we hope to follow ❤️😘😍🥰❤️😘😍🥰❤️❤️❤️
The LCC #BatterseaBridge protest ride is next Thursday at 6pm.
We wish this hadn't happened. We wish we didn't have to protest. But we'd ask you join us, to help end these terrible, avoidable tragedies on our roads.
@wise_littlelegs The exact circumstances are subject to a live witness appeal.
The junction needs changing. This woman was killed in the same place a man was killed jogging & where another woman lost a leg cycling, 50m from where a woman & her 3 dogs were mown down & killed by a driver.
