Heavy rainfall can quickly lead to flash flooding, mud and debris flows, rockslides, dangerous road conditions, downed trees and power outages.
Know your risk. Know your plan.

✔️ Secure loose outdoor items
✔️ Charge your phones and backup batteries
✔️ Know your evacuation routes
✔️ Monitor official weather and emergency information

🌧️ WHO SHOULD BE ESPECIALLY PREPARED?
If you live near a river, creek, wash, drainage channel, low-lying area, mountain or recently burned hillside, you may be at greater risk.
But remember — flooding and dangerous road conditions can affect areas far beyond traditional flood zones.
BEFORE THE STORM:
✔️ Clear leaves and debris from gutters and storm drains around your property.
✔️ Bring outdoor furniture, decorations and loose items inside.
✔️ Check your vehicle’s tires, brakes and windshield wipers.
✔️ Charge your phones and backup batteries.
✔️ Have flashlights, batteries, food, water and medications available.
✔️ Know multiple routes out of your neighborhood.
✔️ Make sure you can receive emergency alerts.
✔️ Check on family members, neighbors and anyone who may need additional assistance.
✔️ Don’t forget your pets.

DURING THE STORM:
⚠️ TURN AROUND. DON’T DROWN.
Never drive or walk through moving or flooded water.
Just 6 inches of moving water can knock an adult off their feet, and deeper water can sweep away vehicles.
🚫 Never drive around barricades.
🌊 Stay away from rivers, washes, creeks, flood-control channels and areas experiencing flooding.
🏔️ Stay alert for mud and debris flows, especially near recently burned areas.
📱 Monitor official emergency alerts and weather information.
If you’re told to evacuate — don’t wait. Leave when instructed.
A storm can change conditions in minutes. Don’t wait until the water is rising to make a plan.
