I think after reading it’s important to remember that just because the book ended doesn’t mean the problem did. There is still much work to be done in the criminal system and society. #so345
I see hyper masculinity in modern day throughout video games. It’s not even about violence, just the fact that most “male” games are about shooting. It’s not a question if it’s right or wrong, but rather why? #so345
I found it interesting how the police basically told Rios to shape up the guys he was with after they were released. He was treated like one of them (handcuffed) but still viewed differently? #so345
The more I read the more impossible it seems to get out of these situations. It’s almost like your birthright is delinquency and poverty when you are born in areas like Oakland and it’s so sad. #so345
Acting dumb when you are actually smart reminded me of something I learned in my social psych class. By “handicapping” yourself, it hurts less when you don’t achieve something. Makes sense why these boys would do that in their situation. #so345
The differences in professionalism were very interesting, especially now where it seems like some jobs are more laid back. How does this play into discrimination and bias in job interviews? #so345
Even outside of the chapter, I don't think I've ever heard of someone who liked their probation officer or had a good experience with them. Has anyone else heard the same or different thing? #so345
If you could be labeled a gang member just by association, what other things could you be labeled as? I think most of us know someone who did something criminal, does that make you criminal too? #so345
@User1269884151 I think if someone continues to belittle you, you will start to believe what they say, sort of like bullying. If you are told your entire life you will not amount to anything its easier to choose a path that doesn't give you much. #so345
It’s crazy that something as simple as being tall could be seen as a threat. Besides height, what other normal factors could be seen as a negative in these kinds of situations? #so345
