It's 10 cities with congestion pricing if you count Durham, Valetta, London, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Milan, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Oslo (sort of). Znojmo excluded https://t.co/XWtWxBUcaZ
RUC was introduced to EVs in Iceland in 2024, there is no statistic that shows that having any meaningful long term impact on sales. RUC now applies to all vehicles in Iceland, so it is effectively neutralised.
Some are quoting Iceland as an example of where RUC has harmed EV sales since it was introduced, failing to note that although BEVs as a proportion of total vehicle sales in the first quarter 2026 dropped - this is because total vehicle sales in Iceland went up so much...
A 53% increase in car sales in the first quarter of 2026 compared to 2025 still saw growth in all vehicle category sales, but as a share BEVs dropped. Small markets can have big swings in percentages but anyway https://t.co/MXdSEkOW5d.
The incremental difference in wear and tear on sealed roads between different weights of light vehicles is insignificant compared to the effects of the weather (precipitation, temperature and sunlight/UV) and axle loading of heavy vehicles. There is no lack of evidence on this.
Experts are saying it: SUVs damage our roads more than ordinary passenger cars.
I’ve asked @TfL to look into the effect of supersized SUVs in London as more of these vehicles take up space on London’s roads.

Sorry @CatherineKingMP the case to not implement RUC on EVs is weak, as there is little relationship between introducing RUC on EVs, and effects on sales. The right time to introduce it is now. https://t.co/6ewfhPEBdq
Utterly wild that Google news alerts just sent me a link to an article on how the Netherlands is setting up a national all vehicle road pricing system using GNSS technology... in 2009 (of course it was cancelled not long afterwards). https://t.co/rgFPjFpjmX
Iceland is the first jurisdiction to transition all vehicles to road user charging and cancelling fuel tax. Does it have lessons to apply to others? https://t.co/LffmiUXReK
Iceland's parliament has passed a law placing all vehicles on road user charges and to abolish fuel tax. Petrol prices should drop by around US$0.72 per litre, but of course cars will be subject to US$0.055 per km https://t.co/Jfv306Wcc1
Iceland's parliament has been debating extending RUC to all light vehicles (from 1 January 2026) but the law has not yet been passed https://t.co/BzNBdeUH4R
