I don’t really tweet much any more but the idea that Wes Streeting would improve Labour’s fortunes is maybe the most out of touch idea I’ve heard in years (and I don’t even dislike Wes)
Very early days but John Curtice and Michael Thrasher both say Labour are so far performing less badly than expected
Curtice tells BBC: “Labour's rate of seat loss were to continue to the end of tomorrow, they could be looking at losses of just over 1200 seats, rather less than some forecasts anticipated.
And Thrasher tells Sky he also forecasts about 1200 losses on current numbers (down from his previous 1800 forecast)
Long way to go until we get a fuller picture
So far it looks like Reform are the big winner - perhaps a reminder to some in the Labour Party who have said the Greens are their bigger threat
@FootballCliches just heard Theo Walcott talk about set pieces being part of Arsenal’s…and he wanted to say arsenal, then seemed to doubt himself and said “part of Arsenal’s Arsene”
@killingtimestv Happy new year! Any news on a new season of Those Who Kill, or was season 4 the last? Has been the most consistent Nordic noir for a long time
@BigManBakar This is GW5, you’re saving a transfer for your wildcard? Is your AI malfunctioning? A genuine scam that people pay you money, you should feel ashamed
The dynamics of the now inevitable by-election: low turn out, national government unpopular, disgraced former MP and Reform already 2nd mean - despite the big Labour majority - Reform would be disappointed not to win given their current polling/momentum.
Badenoch: The govt is recruiting a new chief inspector of borders who lives in Finland and wants to work from home. Why should the public put up with this?
Starmer: They were appointed in 2019 by the last govt, who then worked for 5 years in Finland. We've changed that.
