Hackney’s decision to progress with a substandard design for Pembury Junction is deeply disappointing.
It also exposes a lot of Hackney’s disjointed and confused thinking and policy making.

to be able to comment on the designs. @hackneycouncil seem to want to base their decision on the discredited and outmoded fringe opinions of a twitter-warrior. Will the panel look to national evidence base and guidance or listen to their old pal Vince? #localdemocracy#pembury
@hackneycouncil have had their decision making process on a key junction re-design called into question. Incredibly, in response, the scrutiny panel is giving 5 minutes to "Hackney Resident" Vincent Stops. This is a man who has made a career out of fighting tooth and nail -
against safe cycling infrastructure. The fact that this man is being wheeled out to defend Hackney's design is only further evidence that their decision-making process is deeply flawed. The Cllrs who "called this decision in" are asking for Active Travel England
@BryanDaveyLdn@YourSUVsucks@psimonk@EllyBakerAM@MayorofLondon and to be clear there are bad examples of BSBs (weirdly where NFB films all their videos) often 10yrs old or more. that's why we have best practice documents and guidance & standards need to be met to ensure they're as accessible as possible, while keeping bikes away from buses
@BryanDaveyLdn@YourSUVsucks@psimonk@EllyBakerAM@MayorofLondon Yeah if you stand there all day, you'll find that someone had to break their stride or a bike had to brake when someone walks into the cycle track in a random place, or yes, a bike goes through too fast. Film literally any zebra crossing and you'd get the same, but with 2ton cars
@YourSUVsucks@psimonk@EllyBakerAM@MayorofLondon They have become almost a single issue organisation since retired councillor and life-long cycle infrastructure hater Vincent Stops started using them as a trojan horse in his war on cycle tracks. He's to be found loitering at BSBs trying to film uncomfortable interactions
@CHAIRRDRF@psimonk@TransportXtra exactly this - he doesn't understand "survivorship bias" you could effectively remove then (large) portion of casualties from the NL number when comparing with the UK, because that group doesn't exist here!!
@psimonk@London_Cycling It's wrong on so many levels. I'll pick just one that he wouldn't understand: survivorship bias. 30% of those NL fatalities he cites are in the Over 75s, cos they cycle almost as much as teenagers in NL. The fact that no over 75s died in GB is cos they literally don't exist.
Car obesity out of control 😬. New @transenv_UK analysis - 62% new cars in UK were SUVs vs 50% in France, which has car weight tax.
Like diesel, failure of national regs and we'll now rely on bold city leaders to act & protect us from monster cars. Will London look to Paris? 👀
A tale of two boroughs: on paper, you couldn't get a rizla between Camden and Hackney's transport strategies. But while Camden builds cycle tracks through the LITERAL WEST END, read Hackney's justification for why cycling doesn't belong in Hackney Central. It's pretty shameful
5,336 children aged 0-15 are killed or seriously injured (often life-changing issues) on our roads each year in England alone.
That’s over 14 children killed or seriously injured per day in England.
