Yet another op-ed in the NYT saying “don’t talk about climate change” that gets the polling and politics completely wrong.

A recent Gallup poll found climate concern is near an all time high. Poll after poll shows voters want candidates to lead on the issue and show they have a plan to build more clean energy.

Climate is a way for Dems to simultaneously rally the base and win over moderates who *overwhelmingly* trust Democrats more on this issue than Republicans.

It's also a way to wedge the GOP: big majorities of young Republicans care about climate, a majority of MAGA voters support solar, MAHA is worried about the health impacts, etc.

Of course we should be connecting climate to affordability, kitchen table issues, and a working class agenda. Of course we should segment audiences and target our messaging. That’s exactly what advocates and smart politicians are doing.

Going silent is a losing strategy — not to mention a terrible thing for the planet.
