It takes a lot of time to develop engaging lessons.ย It takes a lot of energy to stay upbeat for all the students.ย It takes a lot of patience to handle some of the more challenging kids.ย
I hope there is no principal out there that takes their teachers for granted.
I love studentsโฆ and I always will.ย
But the most important lesson I learned as an administrator was that my primary job was to support the staff.ย (And this support allows teachers to care about the kids more effectively.)
If you want to keep the best teachers and administrators, treat them like they are the best. Few people leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals. This is more important now than ever!

I also know what me coaching here symbolizes in light of history. When I walk around different neighborhoods in this city, Iโll hear Black people say, โI had never been on that campus before coming to your game.โ I understand that my success isnโt about championships โ itโs about bringing together people who were once, and in some ways still are, divided. Itโs bigger than basketball.
