@watchesofespion Marathons are bulletproof. The daily routine doesn't involve a lot of submersion but it survives a ton of above water beating and looks and feels great on leather. And <2 min to swap on a NATO if it's going in the drink.

@JoyceCarolOates Joseph Epstein (!) used to teach an undergraduate class on Cather at Northwestern. Took it on a whim, but it ended up one of my favorite classes. The discussion was always thoughtful and often extraordinary.

@aspiringpeasant If you're interested I learned a lot from "The Granite Kiss" by Kevin Gardener; truly enjoyable book. I'm only self- and book-taught, but my kids and I built about 2000 ft of drystack wall when we moved to New England. Took most of their teen years. Greatest family project ever.

@aspiringpeasant Yeah man. My earliest memories are from when my dad was posted at Ft. Lewis and despite the many years, cities, countries and continents for me since then, it's always felt like home. Took me a long time to appreciate the stark beauty of the prairie after that.

@ProfBootyPhD "It Seemed Like Nothing Happened," Peter Carroll. Written in the mid-80s as I recall, so maybe a bit too proximate to the events to see all the implications unfold, esp. post-Thatcher Britain and the collapse of the Soviet Union, nevertheless I enjoyed it.
