With beautiful timing, having recently enrolled the first Canadian patient into the global 500-participant PREVAiLS study, Professor Angela Genge, MD, director of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Clinic @mcgillu’s @TheNeuro_MNI and Executive Director of The ALS Centre of Excellence for Research and Patient Care, provides an in-depth overview of the registrational #PREVAiLS study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of pridopidine, an investigational drug, in slowing ALS progression (ALSFRS-R) in early, rapidly progressive participants. PREVAiLS, undertaken by @Prilenia and @Ferrer, is believed to be the only currently recruiting Phase 3 ALS study in the world, is recruiting in 3 Canadian centers, and in up to 60 leading #ALS treatment centers across 13 countries overall.

I genuinely don’t know whether to laugh or lose my mind anymore at this European hypocritical double standards.

When it comes to Vladimir Putin, suddenly it’s Churchillian resolve. No compromise. No dialogue. Arm Ukraine to the teeth, sanction everything that moves, wreck your own energy security if necessary - because tyranny must be confronted.

Fine. I actually respect the consistency of that … in isolation.

But then you turn around and lecture us - us - the Gulf monarchies, Jordan and Israel, about showing restraint with Tehran? About dialogue? About coexistence?

Are you serious?

For forty years - forty bloody years - this regime has been waging a shadow war across the region. Militias, proxies, sleeper cells, terror networks, destabilizing entire countries - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen - and threatening the Gulf monarchies, Jordan, and Israel nonstop.

This isn’t theoretical. This isn’t abstract. This is lived reality.

And yet here come Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, and the rest of the European choir, gently advising us to calm down, de-escalate, and - what was it again? - “give diplomacy a chance.”

Diplomacy with who, exactly? With a system that has built its entire regional strategy on plausible deniability and proxy terror violence?

You were willing to absorb inflation, energy shocks, and political backlash at home to confront Moscow. You made that choice. You said: this is the price of standing up to a tyrant.

So don’t come here and tell us - after decades of being on the receiving end - that we should just sit down, smile politely, and “coexist.”

Either you believe in confronting tyranny everywhere .. or you don’t.

Today at the 2026 @MDAorg Clinical & Scientific Conference @genge_angela, MD, FRCP(C), eMBA, who leads the @mcgillu ALS Center of Excellence and is Director of the @cusm_muhc Research Institute Center for Innovative Medicine, presented the design for the Phase 3 #PREVAiLS study in #ALS. Angela is a leading PREVAiLS investigator in Canada, where the study will be enrolling soon. The pivotal global PREVAiLS study of #pridopidine in early, rapidly progressive ALS being undertaken by @PrileniaTx and @ferrerforgood.

@PrileniaTx and @ferrerforgood are pleased to announce that the first patient has been enrolled in the pivotal Phase 3 #PREVAiLS clinical study assessing pridopidine’s effect in #ALS. The design of PREVAiLS is informed by, and seeks to confirm, subgroup analysis data from the Phase 2 program in a similar rapid and progressive patient population.

Pridopidine is currently under clinical investigation and has not been authorized for use by regulatory authorities.

The first participant was enrolled at @MassGeneralNews @MassGenBrigham (MGB), under the supervision of @PaganoniMDPhD MDPhD, Co-Director of the @MassGenHospital Neurological Clinical Research Institute, and PREVAiLS principal investigator, who said: “Pridopidine is a sigma-1 receptor (S1R) agonist. The S1R has been shown to play a role in stimulating multiple neuroprotective pathways impaired in neurodegenerative diseases, such as ALS and Huntington’s disease (HD). Enrolling the first participant in this confirmatory study is a milestone in our search for potential new therapeutic options that may help to slow disease progression, preserve function, maintain speech and prolong survival – key aims of early ALS therapy.”

“The ALS community urgently needs new treatment options that can delay the disease’s relentless progression and awaits the outcome of this study,” said @TheKuldipDave, Ph.D. Senior Vice President of Research, @alsassociation. “The earlier we can diagnose and treat ALS, the greater the potential to preserve function and maintain quality of life for longer, which are key to making ALS livable until we can cure it”.

Recruitment at additional sites in the US, Europe and other regions is expected to commence in the near future.

For decades, we have carried the burden of conflict more heavily than most. We have paid a profound price (in lives lost, in families torn apart, and in the destruction of our communities) while standing at the forefront of regional and ideological struggles tied to opposing Israel. The cost has not been abstract; it has been deeply personal and painfully real.

Despite the heavy price we, as Christians, have paid (often as a result of foreign agendas and imposed ideologies) we were never inherently enemies of Israel or the Jewish people. Our history reflects a different reality, one rooted in coexistence, resilience, and an enduring desire for peace rather than conflict.

The Imam Hassan Chalghoumi from the Drancy mosque near Paris is amazed by what Israel is doing now in Iran. And this is what he writes:
I, a son of Ishmael, an Imam, a Muslim, a man of peace, present here my sincere testimony about this wonderful people:
I must admit, I believe in religions and miracles. But there is something about this people—the people of Israel—that feels like it is, in fact, a living miracle.
A people that the Pharaohs tried to erase 3000 years ago… and failed.
A people that the Babylonians tried to destroy 2500 years ago… and failed.
A people that the Romans wanted to exterminate 2000 years ago… and failed.
A people that the Nazis annihilated 80 years ago… without succeeding in eliminating them.
A people that the Arabs fought in five wars to wipe off the map… and failed.
This is a people small in number, but with a unique strength, a divine blessing. Wherever they lay their hand, they succeed. In finance, commerce, science, philosophy, literature… A desert land that they turned into a paradise, without oil or gas, but with freedom, democracy, intelligence, and will.
This is a people that gave the world Einstein, Newton, Kafka, Karl Marx, Nietzsche, Spinoza, Freud… and many others who left their mark on humanity.
There are realities that neither reason nor logic can explain. There is only one word for it: miracle.
For two and a half years, this people has been fighting on five fronts. They said it was getting tired, that it was about to collapse… and yet, it surprises the world by opening a new front against an Iranian enemy that frightens many, even among the Arab regimes.
This people, despite its small number, has the courage of nobles, the wisdom of prophets, the patience of saints, and the determination of survivors. How could it be otherwise, when it is known that they are descendants of Abraham, Solomon, David, Moses, Jacob, Joseph, … and 1523 prophets and messengers from their descendants.
This is a people that brought monotheism and faith in one God to the world. A people driven by a thirst for life, work, innovation, and continuity, lasting more than 4000 years.
Truly, I cannot find another word to describe them except: the miracle-people.
If the Arabs had clear vision, they would choose to unite with this people, learn from it, collaborate with it… perhaps they would be infected by its knowledge, wisdom, and honor.

Those who hate Israel have no idea what this country is — or who these people are.

The first time I brought my son to Israel, he was shocked by almost everything. Young men and women his age — sometimes smaller than him — walking around with enormous guns. The noise. The familiarity. The way people drive, honk, argue, shout.

And perhaps most confusing of all: the way strangers in Jerusalem would suddenly come up to me, crying, and hug me.

He would be startled and whisper, “Tell them not to touch you.”

He couldn’t understand why people we had never met would embrace me like family.

Now he’s slowly beginning to understand.

Random people who have never heard of me — and who have no idea Adam is my son — treat him with a warmth he still finds hard to believe. In Germany, people are polite. Here, people are family.

He doesn’t speak Hebrew.

One day, on his way to the gym, a siren went off. He asked a stranger where the nearest shelter was. The man didn’t just point — he walked him there and ended up becoming his friend.

Another day he went boxing with a group of Russian guys. We had been warned about how tough they were.

They adopted him instantly and asked when he wanted to compete.

Wherever I take him, people spoil him.

On his first visit, I made sure he saw every side of Israeli society. He spent time on a left-wing kibbutz. With a religious family with five children. With yeshiva students. With soldiers. At a Shabbaton with modern Orthodox friends. Around Shabbat tables with religious Jews, and with atheists. Young people, old people — every shade of Israeli life.

And then I asked my old mentor, Yossi Klein Halevi to take Adam out for lunch and answer his long list of questions.

I have my own answers to many of those questions.

But I don’t have Yossi’s patience — or his wisdom.

Adam asked why security here can sometimes feel so intense.

After narrowly missing three terror attacks — by a single day — at the Allenby Crossing, in Jerusalem, and in Jaffa, he no longer needed much explanation for why Israelis carry guns.

And after speaking to Israeli Arabs, he began to understand how complex life here really is — and how simplistic and ignorant the slogans of Israel’s haters often are.

So thank you, Israel, for looking after my son.

The same son whom much of our extended family decided to punish because of my political choices — because of my support for Israel.

Now he understands why Israel is worth this.

And more.
