My niece, 𝗥𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗶 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲, has been selected to represent 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 in the 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝘇, 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟰, taking place on 21 September 2026 in Kampala.

Ruth is a first-year student pursuing a 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 at the 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, Makerere University.

I celebrate her selection, but I also want to encourage her to take this opportunity seriously and approach it with intention.

The world young people are entering is very different from the one many of us entered.

Academic qualifications remain important, but they must be complemented by curiosity, critical thinking, confidence, communication, teamwork and the ability to apply knowledge under pressure.

Experiences such as this quiz are not merely extracurricular activities.

They can help young people discover their strengths, build meaningful networks and begin preparing deliberately for their future.
