Absolutely over the moon how this turned out, after visiting Keeneland and seeing the talented Robert Clark paint at the sales pavilion I had him paint our boy Arabian Knight, it was delivered today and sits on my work office wall, I get to see him every day.

Sometimes you just look for an "Excuse to post" . . . I saw somebody else post today that this little filly, the first foal out of Covfefe will be making her debut today at Churchill Downs.
I always referred to her at Babyfefe . . . but her registered name is Ellen Jay. Winning on debut is a rare feat, so let's not expect or demand too much of her . . . like I said it was really just an excuse to post these paintings from a couple years ago for Jaime Roth of LNJ Foxwoods stable. She didn't keep them all as they spread them amongst their bloodstock advisors and her parents . . . but it was interesting as one just kept leading to another. Again, let's temper our expectations - but I'm driving this bandwagon and you can get on or get out of the way - Go Babyfefe GO!!! @LNJFoxwoods

Mystic Dan winning the 150th Kentucky Derby. This is the 18 hour non-stop process. The painting was auctioned at the Old Friends homecoming event and raised $3,800.

The first time I painted for the Old Friends Homecoming was the day after Barbaro won the Kentucky Derby in 2006. It's been an interesting 18 years - we've seen Old Friends move to it's current location in Georgetown, KY since that first time. Most recently we've seen a charging of the guard from the founder and lifeblood of Old Friends of Michael Blowen to John Nicholson. One constant has been their focus on providing a good home for the remaining years of their resident former race horses. In the process, Old Friends has brought an awareness of aftercare that has benefited all organizations serving this purpose.
These little quickie paintings are not like my full finished, detailed paintings - but they are a means to provide aid in a way that connects with the racing fans. This year's painting was bought by John Martin of New York. This is the third time John has collected my painting in support of Old Friends.
I'm still punchy from the lack of sleep . . . but the three horse photo finish was a welcomed challenge with the ticking clock being the biggest hurdle to navigate. Again, thank you to Suzie Oldham for providing wonderful source photos year after year for these little "art nuggets".

I've had so many requests to paint Cody's Wish by fans - and a couple charities that I wholeheartedly support asked for something of him. I made this painting specifically for print #1 to go to the Ocala Farm Managers' event The Call to Post in support of the Race Track Chaplaincy in Florida. The print brought $1,400 at their auction two weeks ago.
It was the Thoroughbred Charities of American that first asked me to paint Cody's Wish, but we ended up going with the painting of Justify & American Pharoah that raised $18,000 for them in January.
With that being said, the TCA will be auctioning off this painting of Cody's Wish via their online auction that began this morning and runs through this Derby Saturday evening. The bid at this moment is $5,000 . . .
Also, I will be making a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation which was the organization that put Cody Dorman in contact with Darley that led to the relationship of a boy with a horse who carries the boy's name . . . CODY'S WISH - Horse of the Year . . . Story of a Lifetime.
