In this bioRxiv preprint, we (@_KevinCorbett ) present the architecture and activation mechanism of the PARIS antiviral defense system. Thanks to our co-authors, @Lisa_Liang13, @EnustunEray, and @PoglianoJoe, for their support in shedding light on this Anti-anti-defense system.🧵
Very happy to see our genome skimming tool Patchwork finally published with @GenomeBiolEvol! The software has been developed by @fethalen and Clara Koehne performed the benchmarking 1/2 https://t.co/e975ECd6iu
@DapengZhang5 I'm fine! Aravind told me you got tenure: much delayed congratulations! I was very happy to hear that! How about we chat on Friday, 18th? Is there a time in the afternoon you have available? Otherwise we can postpone it for the following week! Best wishes!
Very excited to share our preprint on "A centimeter-long bacterium with DNA compartmentalized in membrane-bound organelles"

Very proud of my former postdoc mentor, L. Aravind (@jivarahasya), elected fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (2022)🔬🦠🧬.
One of the most brilliant scientist I've met. Well deserved! 🥂
We have finished a huge project studying all Rossmann-like proteins, which comprise 20% of all known 3D proteins structures. We figured out why they are so ubiquitous in nature. All data, papers and more details can be found here: https://t.co/gI8pQhLE5Y
Everyone knows of nucleic acid double helices. But many peptide double helices are also made in nature: 2 of the famous ones are shown here. Quiz: What are these, which are some organisms producing them & how are they made?
3 core components of these systems: 1) a rapidly-evolving TPR module likely recognizing invading elements fused to a histidine kinase. 2) A solo Receiver domain 3) A 2nd Rec domain fused to diverse effector domains including peptidases, nucleoside phosphorylases, &nucleases. 2/n
While the generation of NAD+-derivatives as second messengers in these systems was proposed by us previously, here we identify a novel sensor for this signal: a specialized 7-TPR repeat domain with highly-conserved polar and aromatic residues.

Happy to share our preprint on the structure of Vipp1 and why we believe Vipp1/PspA/Im30 proteins are ESCRT-III homologues, based on primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structural similarities. And my first scientific thread! https://t.co/krQX1xyOQq
Here we report the discovery of two novel domains likely involved in adhesive interactions found in apicomplexans of the piroplasm lineage: the piroplasm β-strand (PiβS) domain and the Babesia α-helical cell surface (BAHCS) domain. https://t.co/rQCIWfQxRI
