INTEGRITY IS NOT SITUATIONAL
After a heated loss in Dec '21, Jamal Shead cleaned up his teammate's mess. 2 years later he was Big 12 P.O.Y on nation's #1 team.

“We’re not going to recruit selfish guys, I guys, or guys who don’t want to pay the price.” - Curt Cignetti
That line should be printed on every locker room wall in America.
Talent matters.
But mindset, toughness, and team-first habits matter more.
"To be a leader of the team, it can never stop."
Everybody wants the title, few want the responsibility. Being “the leader” means you’re on the job all the time Leaders don’t take plays off.
They don’t take days off.
They set the expectation and live it.
Great Day to be a Vike!

I feel very blessed to be able to teach leadership skills to student-athletes and to help coaches and teams develop positive, championship team cultures. Here's a little more about my work and journey:

Calling all Ted Lasso fans. Come give me a follow on Instagram @ ljcdsathleticleadership for my new series called 'Lessons from Lasso.' I will be going through each episode and posting a short video on the leadership lessons that I took from Coach Lasso. #ljcdsleadership
The best way to gauge others’ values isn’t to ask them directly. It’s to see who they respect.
Shallow people are impressed by superficiality. They look up to beauty, fame, money & power.
Deep people are drawn to substance. They admire wisdom, kindness, creativity & integrity.
Any coach can learn the X’s and O’s.
The best coaches focus on:
1. Creating their CULTURE
2. Growing their SYSTEM HABITS
3. Developing a winning MINDSET
4. Building player RELATIONSHIPS
5. Developing LEADERSHIP skills
What is your focus?
“You can be the quietist person, you can be the loudest person but how you treat people, how you treat your teammates, how you push your teammates is where you leave your legacy,” @AlyssaNaeher
Winners are invested in the success of their teammates.
“There’s a lot of negative in the world and a lot of people telling you when you do stuff wrong. To really maximize someone, it’s beneficial for someone to be showing them a vision of their greatest self,” Mike McDaniel
Winners have a shared vision of lifelong growth and success
FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL!
“The more concerned we become over the things we can't control, the less we will do with the things we can control.” – John Wooden

It has been a pleasure working with the Men's Basketball Team this season. Coach Casey and the boys have put in so much work to develop a championship culture. The core covenants are not just words. They are the identity of the program. The Open Division playoffs start Saturday.
We had an excellent spring sports leadership workshop last night. The athletes and coaches had some great discussions about leadership, culture, core covenants, & standards. Great teams don't happen by accident and these teams are putting in the work to build something special.
