AOC adopted a smug posture to justify her indefensible vote to send more money to the Zionist regime. Her indifferent tone was not incidental. By saying “of course I voted no,” as if this were a political no-brainer, she’s attempting to revive a defunct electoral adage: that there will be no consequences for betraying the Palestinian people.

She recognizes that popular opinion has shifted. Undermining our movement now carries a political cost, especially for progressive politicians. Rather than embracing that shift, she’s working to reverse it, to reintroduce a liberal status-quo in which Palestine is a fringe concern.

Contrast her blasé dismissal of horrifying accusations of complicity in genocide with her solemn, validating tone when addressing accusations of antisemitism. The latter she treats as urgent and consequential, the former she frames as a nuisance.

But her smugness is a deliberate performance, one that may signal the strategy the Democrats will use to sideline our increasingly popular movement in the coming months, a strategy of scorning our death. These politicians are banking on our silence, but they will be reminded of the one truth they are working tirelessly to deny: Palestine isn’t a fringe issue; it is the litmus test.

SHAME on you for weaponizing our suffering
to uplift a politician who speaks the language of our oppressors with a progressive mask.

SHAME on you for turning “Free Palestine” into an empty phrase. For bleaching our struggle to fit your brand of respectability.

You are not allies.
You are normalizing the language of our oppressors:
“Israel has the right to exist.”
“The horrific events of October 7.”
The lie that anti-Zionism is antisemitism.
The lie that resistance is terrorism.

This is not solidarity. This is betrayal.

Zohran Mamdani can champion and be right on every other issue — but on Palestine, he stands on the wrong side of history.

And if you can’t say that plainly,
you’re standing there with him.

I’m done being polite.
