Chief Meteorologist KATC Lafayette, LA - Weather for Acadiana/S LA. Forecasting for Gulf Coast since 1985. 2020 Tropical Weather Conference Broadcaster of Year.
Tropical & GRAF Model Update: Active systems in the Eastern Pacific with weakening Tropical Storm Amanda and two more disturbances with high chances of development there in the days ahead.
Meanwhile the Atlantic Basin is quiet, while a very weak low in the Gulf is expected to open to a tropical wave and head northwestward toward Louisiana Saturday.
Enhanced chances of rain and storms will be likely for Acadiana Saturday (80%) with perhaps some leftover showers Sunday. Next week looking a little drier and certainly hotter and humid for our area. #lawx #tropics
Medium range Euro deterministic model has been trending toward developing some sort of tropical system in the Gulf toward the end of next week into the following weekend.
So far it's a mixed signal on whether something may actually develop in the Eastern Pacific emanating from the Central American Gyre (CAG) where it's already active, or the CAG slings something into the Gulf.
Too early to assess, but at this time a depression/lower end tropical storm may be possible...we'll monitor the trends over the next several days.
Some sort of Louisiana impacts may also be possible, but no worries for now as more than a week out is an eternity for any kind of weather specifics...and model forecasts will change. #lawx #tropics
Scattered mainly afternoon showers & storms for Acadiana next couple of days, and not as widespread as the last few days....
Our highest rain chances and some heavier tropical showers and storms may arrive Saturday with a weak low that's currently in the Central Gulf.
Not expecting any development. Just elevated rain chances and perhaps a some funnel cloud action (& some offshore waterspouts), and a tropical breeze.
Thereafter, our pattern looks to get settled into an early summer pattern with plenty of humidity and heat coming on...heat indices next week will likely approach 100°+! #lawx
I’ve posted about this before, and this epitomizes the issue: this is the direct result of the irresponsible, idiotic severe cuts to @NOAA / @NWS. No spin or opinion…this is 100% FACT. This never happened before these cuts. THIS HURTS EVERY. SINGLE. AMERICAN.

More storms are rolling into Acadiana from the east with some gusty winds and torrential downpours possible. Activity will be slow to diminish into the evening hours. #PowerDoppler3#AcadianasRadar#LAwx#KATC
Tomorrow Lafayette's daylight length reaches 14 hours! We max out 14 hours and 6 minutes later this month, and will drop below 14 hours July 10. Enjoy the evenings if they aren't too stormy and there's a breeze to keep the mosquitos down lol
