@Geordie_Radgie@vickygrayson_ That said I’m sure there are some instances where the VAT has had a detrimental effect to some schools. Just not every single one. It’s more nuanced than that.
@Geordie_Radgie@vickygrayson_ I’d suggest the 55% real terms increase in Indy fees over the previous decade was tricky. But on this specific school, losing pupils and ££ before being bought by an investment firm probably had more to do with it than VAT. Sad for the staff and pupils but not a fault of the Govt
@vickygrayson_@EducationNotTax Yes it’s more than state - which everybody expected due to the policy. Have you read any breakdowns of socio-demographic groups? The groups more likely to use independent schools have historic low rates. Have you read any of the annual financials of the schools that have closed?
@Northernlady678@fleurmeston I’m not defending Labour. Nor am I defending the policy here. I’m simply saying it was not the cause of this school closing.
@ChainSchema@vickygrayson_ Can you not read what I put. Business not feasible irrespective of any new policy. Hopefully the kids get sorted within a more stable setup.
@ChainSchema@vickygrayson_ The financial changes show it had falling pupils and that a deficit of £1m a year before this policy was unsustainable. But yes let’s just blame the Govt.
@_jaylawrence Think how much the high earner can pop in a pension saving both the tax and developing a future return and improved retirement. They could save the median salary amount and still have double the monthly income of that salary as well as a huge pension pot.
@AdamJoseph I think it’s genius. Overpay when others also need midfielders. So the whole market inflates. Everyone will now be forced to pay more for arguably inferior targets.
@vickygrayson_@EducationNotTax If you looked at the financial reports of those schools you would see it’s not the VAT policy that is the overriding cause of closure. It is however a great excuse. Irrespective of my view on the policy.
@EducationNotTax@vickygrayson_ I view certain aspects differently to you. I don’t see those businesses as charities. I don’t think the policy can be blamed for every closure though each one uses it as such. I agree with you on certain aspects. Stick to your crusade as honestly your manners are quite lacking.
@EducationNotTax@vickygrayson_ It was also over a longer period. Yet to see if the funding improves. I think disruption is limited as state sector has been robust although any change will have some disruption - though plenty of Indy closures pre this policy too.
@EducationNotTax@vickygrayson_ Couldn’t you say that for every business? If every sector had reduced rates and no VAT wouldn’t they be more successful?
