#FreeIran2026 : Mrs. Naike Gruppioni @naike_gruppioni:
The Iranian people’s desire for freedom is stronger than the fear the regime is trying to impose on them.
Freedom in Iran is not an out-of-reach issue, it is a global aspiration.
Even when they ban a demonstration, freedom still finds a way to show itself.
It is the Iranian people who will shape the future of Iran, and end the religious dictatorship.

Poverty, Floods, Corruption & Greenwashing
1. The Vicious Cycle
Poverty in Africa isn't just a social crisis—it's an environmental and infrastructural one. When 37% of Africans live in extreme poverty and 600 million lack access to reliable electricity, governments face impossible choices:feed people today or build for tomorrow's floods. Climate resilience becomes a luxury.
2. The Infrastructure Gap
Africa requires £1.8 trillion by 2030 to address climate change locally, yet receives less than $14 billion annually in adaptation finance against an estimated need of over $100 billion. This staggering gap means drainage systems designed for colonial-era populations struggle with today's megacities.
3. Waste Meets Water
When drains don't exist or are never cleared, waste accumulates. In Accra, drains choked with plastic waste and sachet-water bags turn moderate rain into deadly floods.Similar scenes unfold in Dar es Salaam—uncontrolled waste dumping, limited drainage systems and haphazard building. In Nairobi's informal settlements, garbage ends up in open areas and drainages, clogging sewage systems.
4. 66 Years of the Same Headline
Ghana's capital has flooded for 66 years—for largely the same reasons. President John Mahama rightly called it "not an engineering problem" but "a problem of indiscipline". Yet when poverty forces families onto floodplains and wetlands, "indiscipline" becomes survival.
5. Corruption: The Great Diverter
The African Union estimates Africa loses more than **$148 billion annually to corruption**—nearly three times the $53 billion needed for adaptation financing. When climate funds arrive, 70% of citizens in one survey speculated funds would be lost to corruption or embezzlement. Public trust evaporates.
6. Greenwashing at Its Optimum
Poverty makes Africa fertile ground for corporate greenwashing. In Tanzania, Volkswagen's carbon credit scheme offers Maasai herders $2 per hectare on 40-year contracts—"free money" few can refuse. NGOs call it a "scam" that lets corporations "continue polluting & making big profits on the backs of indigenous people".
7. The Plastic Credit Mirage
In Kenya, petrochemical-backed plastic credits promise to improve waste picker livelihoods.Reality? No increase in wages,no meaningful consultation, informal workers excluded. Companies earn credits, luxury brands buy reputations and those doing the actual collection see little benefit.
8. Vanishing Carbon Deals
UAE's Blue Carbon signed deals covering millions of hectares across Africa. Liberia's deal covering ~10% of its landmass? Stalled.Promised community benefits? Nowhere.Schemes "lack oversight" & offer polluters a chance to "greenwash" emissions with little climate impact.
9. What Real Solutions Look Like
The AfDB's $11 million sanitation project in Juba shows what's possible: upgrading faecal sludge treatment, strengthening waste systems, reducing flood risks. In Accra's Old Fadama, a community waste-to-livelihoods hub transforms hazards into enterprise, with 30 beneficiaries gaining skills in waste entrepreneurship.
10. The Way Forward
Africa's climate trap is not inevitable. But solutions require:
· Debt relief & concessional finance—not commercial loans
· Anti-corruption safeguards in carbon markets
· Community-led solutions, not corporate greenwashing
· Accountability for polluters who profit from Africa's vulnerabilities

Poverty doesn't just trap people—it traps continents in cycles of vulnerability, exploitation, and disaster. Breaking free requires confronting the systems that profit from Africa's pain.
