@tourismsvoice@HospitalityTday this is not a 5% VAT rate for hospitality. It’s a limited measure on children’s meals.
The UK hospitality sector faces one of the highest VAT burdens in Europe. Until there is a meaningful reduction across hotels, food, drink & attractions, this does little to support growth.
@bphillipsonMP There is no such thing as a FREE breakfast as ultimately someone pays for it.
Call it subsidised, charitable, government or taxpayer funded - but NOT FREE!
Hospitality creates jobs, drives tourism and supports local communities. A reduced VAT rate would help businesses reinvest, protect employment and remain competitive with Europe. This is about growth, not profit. #VATForHospitality#VATsTheProblem
Proud to support the #VATsTheProblem@cheftomkerridge@ukhospitality campaign.
Hospitality is not asking for a handout. We’re asking for a level playing field.
Across much of Europe, hospitality benefits from a reduced rate of VAT because governments recognise the value the sector brings to jobs, communities, tourism and local economies. In the UK, we remain one of the most heavily taxed hospitality sectors in Europe despite being the country’s third largest employer.
Every pub, restaurant, café, hotel and hospitality business creates opportunities for young people, supports local suppliers and helps keep our high streets alive. We create jobs, drive tourism, generate investment and help build thriving communities.
A reduction in VAT to European levels isn’t about protecting profits. It’s about protecting jobs, supporting growth and securing the future of an industry that millions of people rely on.
If hospitality succeeds, towns succeed. The economy succeeds.
The industry needs to come together and make some noise. The more voices we have, the stronger our message.
One industry. One voice. One ask.
It’s time for the UK to recognise hospitality as the economic powerhouse it is.
Please support the campaign, sign the petition and share it with your teams, colleagues, suppliers and customers.

@Dan4Barnet Raising taxes is your answer to everything isn’t it Dan? What’s going to happen when there is nothing left to tax because you screwed the golden goose? I suppose as one of the “elite” socialists you’ll be ok though looking down on those you screwed.
From the smallest café to the largest hotel, hospitality creates jobs, invests locally and supports communities. A VAT rate in line with Europe would help businesses grow, reinvest and thrive. Well done Andy for keeping the message front and centre. #VATInLineWithEurope

The only way to save this industry and to solve unemployment is to cut Vat in line with Europe #VatinlonewithEurope#Hospitality https://t.co/myCvMW6Cxq
@allen_m_simpson@PhillipAllsopp_ So by Holiday park Centreparcs would probably be exempt - a billion pound company -which charges quite a lot would be excempt but not a small B&B in a seaside resort struggling by.
#scraptheholidaytax
@LaraInCornwall Hi Laura - the advice so on the .gov HMRC website. Only counts for genuine kids meals, not small plates, or normal meals reduced in price for kids, but also can include a drink as a package / meal deal.
The impact of higher wages & employers NI are clear now in two sectors who employed younger people combined with AI in others. Not a good sign for this government which extols needing growth
UK youth unemployment rate hits 11-year high

@pub_that@LaraInCornwall It’s a ridiculous tax & in its current form is not ringfenced for use in local tourism / hospitality unlike the Liverpool Business tax which is about £2. The holiday tax can be a % so the higher the accommodation the higher the tax like in Edinburgh where it is5% + VAT !
@pub_that Burnham supported a call for Vat cut BUT I don’t think he’d deliver it & even if he did he would take it back as taxes on business in other ways. Politics in the UK is badly broken & without complete changes at every level we will continue to be served failure by all parties
@JohnSlinger@UKLabour Business closures up
Taxes up
Inflation rising
New businesses being created - down
Wealth creation down
BULLSHIT detector - massively UP!⬆️ It
@Rebecca_SPaul As a small business employer it’s impossible to get the sums to add up without taking away from some to afford others - not a choice one wants to make but is forced to take due to government policies
@Kate_Dearden Whatever happened to people looking after themselves & family rather than being dependent on others? This isn’t about classes in society it is about this Labour Party wanting everyone in their pocket.
