making private commissioned mods for money is alright, but ultimately making mods works more as a stepping stone to learn or improve skills needed in the gaming or art industry. Making mods for monetary gain is in most cases against the love of the game.

the simple rules is in most communities: Don't straight up paywall public mods (early access is fine in most cases), Support the mods/modders you like, read the mod page/FAQ, don't harass modders, be humble as a mod creator, don't claim others work as your own,

i think creators deserve to be paid for their work. that said modding is like, one of the only gaming-related things that hasn't been milked to death by capitalism

everyone just kinda collectively agreeing that fan-made modifications for games should be free is good in my eyes

Some people will treat mods as if they were game releases and then talk about games/dlc as if they were mods and then get mad at you for knowing the difference

Some people accepts the current state of PC gaming where they pay money for unfinished and buggy experiences.

But will not be as accepting when they don't receive support for a mod they downloaded for free, or the mod isn't to the standard of official content.
