How does VL perform compared to DL for emergency intubation in the setting of cardiac arrest?
This is often challenging because the patient is moving as a result of the chest compressions or the chest compressions have to be held for intubation, with the latter risking worse outcomes. In this secondary analysis of our DEVICE trial, 8% were in cardiac arrest at the time of intubation. Among those, we found that VL had an FPS proportion of 83% versus DL which had 65%. This translates to an NNT of 6 for improved FPS.

This algorithm provides a stepwise approach to the initial management of hemorrhagic shock resuscitation based on based recommendations and is intended to be used in conjunction with damage control surgery during the initial phases of trauma care.

Chest Compressions has not been scientifically validated for Trauma PEA. We examined the effects of CPR on a porcine model of severe hemorrhagic shock and found that CPR does not improve, and may actually impair, cerebral and skin oxygenation/perfusion.

This is a truly horrific read. Despicable behaviour that every single one of us has a duty to call out if we witness/become aware of it. There is no place for this anywhere in society, especially not in a service that exists to help people! Please speak up - victim OR witness.
@DaveSwart7 I knew it was a practice when pt was being admitted from us, but normally they not in your face about it. Didn't know it was an issue with transfers 🤔
