🚨 It’s time for the US to give Ukraine access to Patriot Missiles 🚨

After running to the bomb shelter in Ukraine myself several times since being here due to Russian ballistic missiles being launched toward my direction, after feeling my chest tighten as I was woken up in the middle of the night by air raid alarms nearly every night, and after watching the devastation and destruction of American businesses in Ukraine by Russian Ballistic missiles, it is my opinion that the United States should give Ukraine more Patriot missiles.

Patriots are purely defensive systems that intercept Russian ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones targeting Ukrainian cities, power plants, and civilians. They save lives, protect critical infrastructure, and force Russia to expend expensive munitions for diminished results, without enabling Ukrainian strikes into Russia or putting American troops at risk.

This support also counters a direct threat to Americans. According to US officials and Ukrainian intelligence, Russia has provided Iran with targeting intelligence (including locations of US warships, aircraft, and forces in the Middle East) to enable Iranian attacks. Ukrainian intelligence has further documented Russian satellite imagery of US bases in the Gulf being shared with Tehran, correlating with strikes that have killed American service members. Russia and Iran’s deepening military partnership (drones, tech, and now targeting data) links the two fronts: degrading Russia’s war machine in Ukraine reduces its capacity to arm and assist Iran in operations that kill US soldiers. Russia is doing this as Iran is actively plotting to assassinate President Trump and other Americans who support bombing the IRGC. Russia has even amplified some of those assassination threats by Iran.

Providing Patriots is low-risk leverage that defends Ukrainian civilians, raises the cost of Russian aggression, and weakens an axis of evil already costing American lives.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The Ukrainians are willing to shed their blood so Amercians don’t have to.

If Ukraine falls, Russia will replicate what they have done here in other parts of Europe and eventually the US. We have an opportunity now to save more lives, especially future American lives.

Patriot missiles in Ukraine will slow down the spread of multipolarity.

I hope Ukraine is given Patriot Missiles. I never thought I would ever say this, but I truly believe this is urgent and necessary.

My colleague from South Dakota suggests here that the talking filibuster hasn’t been used in a century, and that it was not used to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

He’s mistaken.

As I’ve explained to the entire Senate GOP on multiple occasions, the talking filibuster *was* used effectively to break the weeks-long filibuster mounted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Leader Thune and others point out that the Senate ultimately invoked cloture on the Civil Rights Act, and on that basis wrongly conclude that the talking filibuster was *not* the tool used to achieve that victory.

This argument ignores the fact that this is *how* the Senate closed a staggering 30-vote cloture deficit in 1964. After many weeks of fighting a losing battle, filibustering senators predictably started to lose their resolve to hold up the bill indefinitely, especially when they realized how hard they’d have to work to keep the effort alive.

So they started proposing and supporting amendments to the bill to make it more palatable and help them save face.

I still maintain that this is a viable approach that could work well—even better—in the context of the SAVE America Act, especially considering that the bill is less complicated and less controversial with voters than was the Civil Rights Act, and currently has a cloture deficit of only 10 votes—tiny compared to the 30-vote deficit faced by the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

My colleague also mistakenly suggests that Senate Republicans would have to vote to enforce the talking filibuster. That simply isn’t true; no vote is required for this step. All we need is a majority leader willing to announce that we’re getting on the bill and that we will continue to debate it until it passes—all with the understanding that if filibustering senators fail to show up to debate it, we can “call the question” and pass it with a simple majority.

That understanding, in turn, is what motivates the filibustering senators to show up and speak, but it’s also what naturally causes them to tire of the exercise after a few weeks, at which point they start looking for a face-saving off-ramp.

Finally, Leader Thune suggests that the talking filibuster would be thwarted by being “reset” every time Democrats offered an amendment. There’s a valid point in there, but it’s not a good reason not to invoke the talking filibuster. It appears he’s referring indirectly to paragraph 1(a) of Senate Rule 19 (the two-speech rule). While offering a new amendment can create a new question under longstanding practice, the September 25, 1986 precedent narrowed how rigidly the two-speech rule is applied by clarifying that many procedural actions do not count as speeches at all.

Particularly in light of that 1986 clarification, it’s been a long time since I’ve suggested we consider rigid enforcement of Rule 19’s two-speech limit as part of a talking filibuster strategy for the SAVE America Act. We don’t need it!

Nor was that rule aggressively enforced during the Senate’s consideration of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Majority Leader Mike Mansfield correctly focused on requiring actual debate from filibustering senators rather than looking for technical ways to shut the debate down.

To give credit where it’s due, I appreciate what Leader Thune said in this interview about the possibility of passing some iteration of SAVE America using budget reconciliation—a procedure in which there is no 60-vote cloture hurdle. I’ve been skeptical of this approach in the past, but I’m starting to believe the SAVE America Act has more budgetary features than I initially considered possible.

That said, reconciliation is fraught with all kinds of problems, challenges, risks, and uncertainties. Also, failure can be far too easy to blame on the parliamentarian.

I’m open to considering the reconciliation path, but we should make this decision with our eyes open. To do that, we need to separate fact from fiction when it comes to the talking filibuster.

President Trump Has Legal Authority to CANCEL THE SENATE RECESS

The President has the Constitutional authority to call an “extraordinary session” of the Senate to vote on the SAVE AMERICA ACT and the CLARITY ACT.

This authority is found in Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution, which provides:

The President “may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses or either of them . . .”

In 1989, the Office of Legal Counsel of the Department of Justice issued a legal opinion confirming this point.

The Legal Opinion states: “The language and purpose of the Clause [Article. II, Sec. 3] make plain that the President may exercise this authority to convene the Senate during an intra-session break . . . We therefore conclude that the President has the power to CONVENE THE SENATE DURING THE PLANNED AUGUST RECESS.” [emphasis added]

Note: This formal Legal Opinion was issued 37 years ago—not dreamed up yesterday.

President Trump should exercise his authority to convene the Senate until such time as votes are taken on the Save America Act and the Clarity Act.

The President can’t force the Senate to pass these Acts, but he can make them stay in session until votes are taken.

The American people deserve to know where each Senator stands on these important matters BEFORE the November elections.

The Fauci files reveal not just a sociopathic narcissist, but also a pathological schizophrenic.

For years, Fauci was assuring the public of Covid narratives that he either knew were untrue, or knew little about.

He posed as a non-partisan, even as he collaborated with the leftwing cable news grandees and liberal columnists to hound his enemies and magnify his godhead.

From the virus’s origins and effects of the lockdowns, to the efficacy of the mRNA vaccinations to the always changing 0/1/2 masks wearing protocols, Fauci used his massive government agency, and sycophantic media, to promote his always fluid narratives by punishing enemies and rewarding friends—on the basis of their loyalty to Dr. “I represent science”.

He seemed to be obsessed with firing White House Covid advisor Scott Atlas, and demonizing Jay Bhattacharya, Sunetra Gupta and Martin Kulldorff—for the crimes of questioning the Fauci party line.

These critics were not radical “let it rip” herd immunologists as the Fauci camp caricatured them, but circumspect, cost-to-benefit doctors and savvy health policy analysts.

Their views, if embraced, might have avoided a multibillion-dollar global shutdown that wrecked economies—especially derailing the booming 4th quarter 2019 Trump economy—increased the death toll, destroyed millions of livelihoods, harmed perhaps permanently the education of millions U.S. children, and was hardly based on the “science”.

And what exactly were the so-called extremist views of Atlas, Bhattacharya, and others?

Healthy children were not at great risk from Covid—but keeping them isolated drained away key resources from the elderly and sick who certainly were vulnerable.

And the nationwide school closures had profound negative effects on children and teens as did the lockdowns on the general population.

Substance and familial abuse soared, small businesses were ruined, and children’s formative educational years were lost.

24/7 mask wearing was neither practical nor necessary as opposed to their beneficial use by health care workers in close proximities.

The experimental mRNA vaccinations may have initially saved lives, but they were not, as billed by Fauci and the pharmaceutical companies, lasting protection from either infectiousness or being infected.

And certainly the repeated booster regimens for some could pose serious health risks.

Herd immunity was not some crank idea, as the Fauci school libeled these experts, but, along with the initial vaccinations, were time-tested medical realities that would mitigate the toxicity of the pandemic.

We have seen a lot of obscene hoaxes recently that changed national events: the loony Jussie Smollett caper; the phony “Steele dossier”; the “51 intelligence authorities” and the Russian-produced Hunter Biden laptop con; and the media fabricated effigy of Joe Biden as “fit as a fiddle”.

But Fauci’s effort to attribute the virus to a bat or pangolin publicly, while privately accepting from his own consultants that it likely was birthed in the Wuhan lab’s gain of function research—which he had helped to support via Peter Daszak—and the policies that resulted from that initial lie, proved literally for thousands a matter of life and death.
