The way some Americans voluntarily speak about political officials is the way citizens of dictatorships are *forced* to speak about their officials for fear of repercussions. I remember the eye-rolling resentment people in autocracies expressed privately over having to praise Dear Leader in public.

Americans should appreciate and practice their right to critique officials. It is not a right every country has, and it’s a right many of our officials very much want to remove. They’re trying to get Americans to preemptively surrender it before they take it by force.
