We get to have an election a week this month!
Quebec is tomorrow
BC municipals are on the 17th
Alberta referendum is on the 19th
BC election is on the 24th
And Ontario municipals are on the 26th
@Blazeneverhazed@kzodns I’ve had this happen twice. One was insane and using me as a rebound from her 2-year relationship and one was normal just Christian and traditional
@simstrata2@GarrettPetersen I was very left-wing back then and learning the truth about that case in 2021 made me start questioning my worldview. Now I’d be considered “far-right” by most people
@podiatristdon@pennyelizabeths Same in Canada. The only good thing about Conservatives in regards to immigration is that they want to bring in less refugees than the left parties and also deport criminals. But all parties want high “legal” immigration from the third world.
The most frustrating part about modern discourse is that it appears to be a conflict of values, but it's mostly a conflict of information
Your cousin who's panicking about the Cornell 7 probably has no idea what she's talking about
Your friend saying Lindsay Clancy was framed legitimately believes that because she saw it from people she trusts
Your dad thinks you are evil for not opposing data centers because he truly believes they will turn the water brown
Most people these days have their outrage formed for them by an algorithm and do approximately zero research on top of that -- this happens on both sides, by the way
When you're talking with these people you will look like a monster to them because they think you have the same information they do: a college girl was drugged and raped, a mother was abused and framed for murder
The vast majority of people are unable to revisit the assumptions that led them there because that would be like a fish examining water
To them it is totally and completely true, which means any new information is only an attack
On a personal level, please avoid talking politics with people close to you who think this way. It will ruin your relationships
@nicholasofronto@CTGvvon11 Not really the Territories, Nunavut is like 85% Native. But in the prairies a lot of people are Métis or mixed more recently and look pretty white despite being classified as Native.
@WeimarHedonism@mauddweeb This is like another Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Kyle Rittenhouse, Jacob Blake, Central Park 5 situation. Where the popular narrative of it is bullshit yet everyone still believes it
@VoteMeHarder@donkilmer She also already broke rules 3.6 and 3.8 of the American Bar Association ethics code just from being on this case after her statement about it
@gattjacob@SpaceWalkerReal@CowboyFrogster Some parts of early colonization, such as in Newfoundland were arguably a genocide. But overall the colonizers treated the Natives relatively well. At least compared to how different tribes treated each other and how the Russians/Soviets and Americans treated Natives/Siberians.
