@local_cinnamon@ettingermentum I play with a guy who decided on supporting Swansea when he was like 14, they instantly got relegated & haven't gotten back up since. In fairness to him he's stayed loyal to them
@jakepbm@sephardi_genius@ettingermentum Palace have won major trophies in the last 2 seasons. There's more to football than who wins the league, otherwise we wouldn't have a pyramid of 92 teams. Getting promoted, avoiding relegation, or making a deep cup run is every bit as important/exciting for most teams
@toku808 Similar story with NFL in the UK. The early Sunday slate starts at 6, by which time the weekend's football is usually done, then you can watch whatever west coast game is on & go to bed after. Similarly, we're not watching college football because it clashes with footy
@ShamashAran@9Sandfire This is the problem here. If you say anything that leaves the slightest bit of room for criticism of anything women do, even when women agree with it, it becomes like flypaper for the dumbest crybaby fuckers the world has ever produced. And of course they all have blue checks...
@jdp343 "11-minute turn-based game of brute force" isn't exactly inaccurate though. The plays are complex, of course, and several different things happen on any given play. ⚽ is that but constant and at a different pace & physicality. It's probably more useful to compare it to basketball
@antUachtaran I'm not Irish but it seems like growth & globalisation of the Premier League has inadvertently become a big problem for Irish football. The top level of the English game is where almost all of your best players have made their name. That route is less open to them now
@zackbeauchamp Close! This is actually a petty hang-up you have with people you personally find annoying, not a reflection of actual political demographics.
@JeremiahDJohns Exactly - people think they should be better, which they could be with some cultural & structural changes to how the game is played, learned & coached in the US. American soccer fans have been saying this forever, now the mainstream is seeing why.
The highest-level team in my city (around 400k people live in the greater metro area, btw) is NPSL. Their season ended last week. It started in May.
Although, the growth & development of USL and adding promotion/relegation is great, and I love that they're challenging MLS.
I dunno mate, why not ask the guys who dunk on you every fucking time you're on the TV? They both came from immigrant working-class backgrounds & played for/in countries that have no barrier to entry - who pays for that in France & Sweden?
Youth soccer (youth sports) is a competitive market with businesses selling a product that obviously customers are willing to pay for. I’d love if soccer was free to all. But who is going to pay for all this free soccer?
@BrazosOutdoors@iedtwt@imamickycatnyc Immediately yes, long-term probably not. Livestock populations only exist the way they do due to widespread meat consumption. Since their food sources are also man-managed, there's not much impact to the ecosystem if their numbers drop.
@aaronminnis@GaryOak420@oroborous Good, so you are aware that Europe isn't one country. Next you might even be able to point some of them out on a map!
