1993 World Series. Bottom of the 9th inning. The late Rickey Henderson’s leading off and calls for time on the first pitch from Mitch Williams, who fell off the mound trying to stop. Mitch was shook. He never recovered.

Eleven minutes later the Jays won their 2nd championship.

Without reading it, the likely answer is: they don’t have Vladdy or Bo locked up, farm system leaves much to be desired, and they’re coming off a losing season. Only positive would be the money they could offer him

The Leafs are seen with two options as Mitch Marner enters the final season of his contract: either find the money to extend him or treat him as a rental for one last playoff run, similar to how the Lightning handled Steven Stamkos before letting him walk in the offseason.

Toronto could take a page from the Lightning’s playbook, who planned to replace Stamkos’ contract with free-agent Jake Guentzel. The Leafs might follow suit with potential free agents like Mikko Rantanen, Sam Bennett, or Brad Marchand, if they’re still available come July 1.
