Younger readers may not remember Baghdad Bob, which is a shame, because he was magnificent. He wasn’t lying so much as performing interpretive dance with reality. The world laughed, and honestly, he earned it.

Teheran Bob delivers falsehoods at a rate that would overheat a machine gun, to a press corps too exhausted to count and an audience that couldn’t find Iran on a map if you spotted them the first three letters, courtesy of an education system ranked somewhere between disappointing and archaeological.
