There are roughly 100 trillion trillion (10²³) planets in the observable universe

Many of the events that led to the rise of humanity were exceedingly unlikely / lucky

Think of the planet that collided with Theia at exactly the right angle & speed with exactly the right mass to create the Earth-Moon system we have today, which gives us the tides and the magnetic field that protects our atmosphere

The comets that bombarded Earth with the exact composition and in exactly the right volumes to give us the oceans

The asteroid of exactly the right size that struck earth at exactly the right time to cause just enough destruction for the dinosaurs to go extinct, while allowing small mammals (our ancestors) to survive

Let’s say each of those lucky events was 1 in 10,000 odds of happening

String together just 6 of those events and you get 10⁻²⁴ odds of the right mix of lucky events happening in the right order to create conscious intelligence on our planet

(1/10000) ^ 6 = 10⁻²⁴

Multiply that into 10²³ planets in the observable universe, and you get an expected value of 0.1 planets in the entire observable universe with conscious intelligence

Math says humanity is likely alone in the universe
