Thoa Khalsa village, Rawalpindi district -today part of Pakistan.

They demanded conversion or death.
Defeat was certain and women were to become their easy targets next after the sikh and Hindu men laid down their life’s fighting these hoards of Jih@dists.
But these Sikh veeranganas refused to bow.

Over 93 brave mothers, daughters and sisters young girls to elderly women gathered at the well inside the haveli garden.

They recited Japji Sahib and ardaas.
One by one they jumped in.

Some pushed the ones above deeper so no one would survive to face r@pe and forced conversion.

The small well quickly filled with bodies.
Only a few climbed out alive.

Their men had fought to the last breath.
Fathers like Sant Raja Singh beheaded their own daughters- 16-year-old Maan Kaur calmly offered her neck twice after the first blow failed so the enemy could never dishonour their bodies.

Survivor Bir Bahadur Singh witnessed the horror first hand.

This was modern jauhar during the Rawalpindi Massacres.
Nearly 300 souls perished in Thoa Khalsa alone.

Their blood was the first loud warning of the Partition that tore our motherland apart.

That silent well (now in Pakistan) still stands as witness to unmatched courage and unbearable pain.

This wasn’t weakness.
This was shaheedi.
This was dharma.
This was izzat.

We bow our heads to the veeranganas of Thoa Khalsa.

Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Never forget 1947.

Never forgive the forces that divided Bharat.
