Fruit trees have been cultivated for thousands of years in this region alongside crops. Multicropping, a traditional farming practice, not only ensured a balanced diversified diet for the community but also richness of soil and farmer prosperity. A welcome change. Should lead to better understanding and wider acceptance of tree-based farming. For every acre of agricultural land, there must be at least two bovine animals. When soil is enriched with tree litter and animal waste, it will decrease dependence on chemical-based fertilizers, reduce input cost and enhance crop health & farmer income. -Sg

The tree is the insurance for the farmer. If there are trees on the farm, their life is insured. It is time to bring back tree-based agriculture and in turn liveliness to our soil. It is heartwarming to see that our farmers are embracing tree-based agriculture on a massive scale in the Cauvery river basin. A gathering of over 10,000 farmers is an indication of the growing large-scale acceptance of this model which has been proven to enrich both farmer economy and the soil. Farming should be liberated from all rules to encourage farmers to grow whatever earns them maximum profit. It is only in making farming lucrative that Bharat can truly thrive.
