In old 2nd edition, my DM would have me roll for traps every 2 squares. Boy this got tedious.
My current 5th ed. char has observer and I wanna bonus action search every round but the DM makes me roll
Curious how different people handle "every round" checks? To keep game moving?
@fugitivehistor1 Makes sense, though as soon as they said their AC was 13+ without mage armor id assume they picked sorcerer sub set. Of course thats metagaming, so my character wouldn't know :D
Love the idea of dragons being mythic. I never had the time to develop an entire homebrew world :-(
@fugitivehistor1 Ah okay, so not like 5th edition where 90% of sorcerers pick dragon and have weird scales and extra armor class that gives it away :-D
5th has some great things (like reactions and upcasting spells) but it also has a lot missing from old editions ^_^
@m_rosenbloom28 Its not bad but the whole thing was too rushed. In one episode its like "mass suicide, ori tracks us, ahhh". I like it though. And everytime I hear that one song I think of this episode
@memeslich Ranger is one of those classes you really only play for the concept/theme. If you are power gaming, avoid it. (Unless its BG3 gloomstalker dips, lol)
Full Article includes the investigation breakdown, what happens when someone jumps blindly, how to run the clues, and scaling notes for different levels.
DMs, this is my first trap! What would you change or add? Thoughts?

This trap is designed to punish greed and impatience while rewarding careful tables. It uses progressive clues instead of a single Perception check, encourages the whole group to investigate, and creates a real “oh shit” moment if someone jumps too soon. The danger stays high even after the cube is revealed because escaping still risks a nasty fall.
@memeslich This is why when I DMed for new players I got them each multicolored dice like back in the day. Orange D20, yellow D12, black D10s, blue D8, red D6s and a green D4.
@fugitivehistor1 I remmeber the days of grid paper. My brother had a "massive" world map that was like 12 sheets of graph paper.
Years later I played "Arcana" on NES and realized he ripped all the dungeon and city names off 😂
