As part of the launch, learners from Serere Township Secondary School Agroecology Club are taking part in a tree-planting initiative to help restore lost tree cover, combat climate change, and build a greener future in commemoration of #WorldEnvironmentDay2026.
Every tree planted today is a step towards healthier ecosystems, more resilient communities, and a more sustainable planet for generations to come.

In his remarks, Okaso Okedi Cyprian, the District Inspector of Schools-Serere, who officiated at the launch encouraged learners to actively participate in #AgroecologyClub activities and to cascade knowledge on the need to transition to agroecology for sustainable food systems within the communities where they live.
“It is important to be in these clubs because you will acquire interpersonal skills, personal skills, and lifelong skills. When you write about agroecology, let people see how your poem is relating to climate-smart agriculture and the changes taking place in your community. Transfer the skills you gain here to your home, your village, and your community"- he noted

Why was the South African government so ferocious against Israel after Oct 7, dragging them to The Hague over Hamas... but so unreasonable and silent when it comes to xenophobic mobs burning foreign nationals alive on SA soil? Is the ANC just headed by terrorists in Hamas cloth?
As we draw closer to the launch of the 4th Edition of the National Schools Agroecology Poem Writing Competition, we reflect on how nurturing creative expression through poetry among learners inspires a new generation of advocates for sustainable farming practices.
This exciting #Agroecology poem by students from St. Gertrude Girls’ Vocational SS in Kisoro district is one example of how we are furthering this vision.

@UstusUasasira@DNkata36102 Leave people alone. If you cannot even be voted chairperson of your own family, yet spend time abusing others, that is pure madness.
This week, the @ESAFFUG team wrapped up a field visit across four districts of Kumi, Mbale, Bugiri, and Mayuge to strengthen Community Agroecology Schools (CAS) structures by building the capacity of their committees in agroecology, leadership, operations, record-keeping and how to create synergies with the existing government authorities especially the extension/production department at the Subcounty level.
Through our #ECOTOPIA programme on Enabling Transformative Agroecology (ETAP), supported by DKA Austria, we documented farmer-led Agroecological initiatives, institutionalized and strengthened CAS Committee structures and enhanced local coordination for readiness to implement the #ECOTOPIA programme on Agroecological transition and transformation in Eastern Uganda.

We can reduce the dangers that chemical-intensive farming poses to our food systems by turning to safer, nature-friendly alternatives.

@afrisagacity In South Africa, it’s striking to hear someone with no formal education repeatedly complain that a foreign national working as a doctor has taken their job. It raises serious questions about the underlying issues affecting our fellow Black sisters and brothers.

Europe bans hazardous agrochemicals to protect its own citizens, yet continues to export the same chemicals to African countries such as Uganda, where farmers often use them with little protection.
This is not just a regulatory gap. It is a business model. And one of the starkest double standards in global agriculture.

On this International Day of Peasants’ Struggle, we stand in solidarity with small-scale farmers and peasants around the world defending land, seeds, and dignity amid rising inequality, climate pressures, and corporate control of food systems.
We celebrate progress in advancing #PeasantRights and food sovereignty, but recognition alone is not enough. Action and structural change are essential for just, resilient food systems.

Uganda imports large volumes of agrochemicals, yet 59% of the 41 registered for use are classified as highly hazardous by the US EPA and banned in the EU.
An insightful article in @DailyMonitor highlights that these chemicals pose serious risks to farmers, consumers, and the environment. Urgent policy action is needed to phase out such toxic substances and promote safer agricultural practices.
