Kurdish "Turkishness"

In March 2021, the (Erdogan)'s Turkish Ministry of National Education released a schoolbook on the Kurdish-majority Diyarbakir Province that makes no mention of Kurds or the Kurdish language at all. It also claims that the language spoken in the city Diyarbakır is similar to the Turkish dialect spoken in Baku, Azerbaijan. In August 2021, authorities changed the name of a 17th-century mosque in Kilis from "Kurds' mosque" to "Turks' mosque" prompting criticism from the Kurdish community.

Bafel Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), in an interview with Fox News, confirmed he held direct talks with Donald Trump, describing him as “very charming and very calm.”

📌 Talabani also revealed he spoke with Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of Iran, saying the Iranian diplomat sounded “very disappointed” amid the ongoing war involving Iran.

📌 The PUK leader rejected cross-border accusations against the Kurdistan Region and warned the conflict could become a prolonged operation with no clear path to regime change.

📌 Talabani stressed that diplomacy is “on a knife-edge.”

📌 He argued the Kurdistan Region should play a stabilizing role:
📌 “Kurdistan needs to be a bridge, not a battlefield.”
