It’s a long answer but the saying is “if you’ve always had privilege then equality feels like oppression”

It goes deeper than that though; there’s been a systematic drive by the Republican Party in bed with large corporations and the wealthy to consolidate wealth at the top and degrade the middle class that was created post WW2 by the new deal. Trickle down economics, tax cuts for the wealthy, union busting, deregulation, etc

But they can’t just do that and expect people to be okay with it, so an entire misinformation ecosystem has been created to convince (mostly uneducated) white men that the reason for their economic angst isn’t because of the wealthy picking their pocket, it’s because they’re being disadvantaged by having to compete against brown people, women, immigrants, gay people, transgender, etc. That there’s a war on men, that democrats are coming to take their guns and bibles. Racist “white replacement theory” antisemitic “globalist” theory etc

Any culture war they can create to make white men angry and fearful of “others” to cover for the fact that their preferred oligarchs and their bought and paid for Republican politicians who are supposed to be “protecting them” are the very ones who created the conditions that fucked up their lives
