Another exciting fieldtrip to Tudusoo and Laukasoo bogs, restored by @LIFEprogramme Mires of Estonia in 2015-2021. Very interesting excursions and lectures by @ELFond to learn about the complex design, long-term monitoring, and public understanding of peat restoration projects!
The intense week of #SERE2024 in Estonia ended with a practical crash course by @WetlandsInt about lagg/transition zone restoration in bogs. What a great way to learn about different methods & data through group work, and study the outcomes of restoration work in Tudusoo mires!
Another fantastic #SERE2024 trip to peat restoration sites in Estonia. This time to Soosaare bog in Alam-Pedja reserve, to see initial outcomes in both extracted & forested areas, 6 years after rewetting. Thanks to Jüri-Ott Salm @ELFond & Elin Soomets @unitartu for a great tour!
This week, @roosarytkonen is attending #SERE2024 with lots of exciting panels and fieldtrips to peatland restoration projects in Estonia. Including here Kuresoo and #Lavassaare - one of our @peatscapes case study sites. Many thanks to @SER_Europe for such an amazing programme!
Such a great fieldtrip with @roosarytkonen! I've followed Ess-soo resistance for two decades, since working for @ELFond. It's fantastic to see the beginning of healing and recovery!
Amazing trip to Ess-soo bog, Estonia. A unique case of local opposition to peat mining, eventually leading to research, nature protection & large-scale restoration. Now a @REWET_HE "open lab" for restoration monitoring. Thanks to the State Forest Management Centre for hosting us!
Wonderful to contribute our paper "Counting on Peatlands: contingencies of carbon accounting in peatland restoration" at #POLLEN24! @roosarytkonen calls attention to the complex temporalities of peat restoration, speaking in a panel on carbon removal, net zero and climate delay!
Meduza on how Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education has come up with orders to regulate contacts of Russian scholars with foreign colleagues, e.g. requirements to report meetings to the ministry 5 days before with lists of participants. Makes no sense.
Минобрнауки ужесточило правила контактов российских ученых с иностранными. Их заставят получать разрешения на встречи и писать отчеты
