Destiny 2 was not a failure.
Destiny is—was—by all measures, one of the most resounding successes in its field, and its end is a consequence of its management, not the game itself, nor the team and community that propped it up time and time again, or the vision that fueled it.
Destiny was a pioneer of the live-service formula. It was one of the earliest games of the 2010s to try to deliver constant goods, whether they took the form of missions, new loot rewards, or skins, to a console audience.

I've seen (& signed) the petition going around. But I think the much more powerful response if you're hoping for some kind of future for the franchise is:
Log on the week of June 9th.
Dont' get me wrong, Sony execs aren't gonna fall to their knees in tears and insta-green-light D3 or anything. But seeing SO many players out there logging on to give one last hurrah to the franchise that meant so much to them - it'll speak volumes in its own way.
At the very least, we'll have one more window of fun enjoying the last batch of new content in a game that meant so much to us. At best, it'll show how passionate the community still is, and just how badly so many of us want SOME kind of future for this franchise, no matter how long it might take to build.
I'll see you out there in June. It's gonna be one hell of a ride.
Update: Larian's CEO has issued a follow-up statement:
"Holy fuck guys we're not 'pushing hard' for or replacing concept artists with AI. We have a team of 72 artists of which 23 are concept artists and we are hiring more."

@MrStellarr@DestinyBulletn Honestly, probably wouldn't take you too long to do the EoF campaign, which is actually quite a cool story. If you're into the storylines, it would be worth it going in to Renegades. Otherwise, it's probably not too essential.
@DanielRPK I vividly remember the laughter at the initial test clip of Cavill. Everyone seems to forget there was backlash then of him not being a good Geralt. Even post-season 1, there wasn't the most positive reviews (I enjoyed it quite a lot).
